Chapter 22

They all sat around the coffee table, Abs quickly got some drinks and snacks organized for everyone as it was getting late. They did not want to eat but something to keep their energy going.

Maan looked at Abs and Nargis and said. You both don't know anything about our family. He then recounted the events that had happened more than 15 years back. He told them how his father loved parties and to have fun and how his mother was happy taking care of home and kids. They did have some happy moments, he remembered a picnic when Vicky was only 2 and him 6 and it will remain his best day with his Pa and Ma looking happy and playing with them. Vicky had just started walking without support and how everyone would laugh when he would step out of the mat and onto the grass and feel the cushiness and sit down and play with it. He loved chasing butterflies. Maan had a faint smile on his face thinking about those days though few and far between. He didn't remember exactly when things started going wrong but he remembered his Maasi and Mom fighting sometime about something.

It was a terrible day the day Pa met with an accident. Maan had grown up suddenly that day. He had been a fun loving guy but that day the tragedy had taken so many people from him. His dadaji fell ill, Pa and Maasi died in a car crash and Mom stopped talking completely and retrieved into a place where she stared blankly at anyone. She refused to meet anyone or let even Maan and Vicky come too close cause that brought about a change in her otherwise calm look and she started screaming. For few weeks, it was okay to keep her under sedation but whenever she was lucid, she either kept screaming or shedding tears silently looking into blankness. Vicky and Maan had been affected by this and Vicky had started getting nightmares, and that was when it was decided by dadiji that their Mom will be put in an institution that is more like a five star hotel with all facilities including medical.

She has shown lot of improvements over the years. She had visited them a few times but Vicky had never been home then. She did recognize them sometimes, especially as she looked at the photos but something would trigger her memory and she would be back to square one.

Vicky then jumped and said that's why I don't want her to be brought Bhai! I know I was not there when you got her but I have seen you after she had gone back. You became harder than ever. I don't want you to suffer. I don't want you to go through that pain.

Maan said, I know bro! but I want Mom there. May be if she comes and sees us happy, something will help her forget her pain and join in our happiness. I want Abolee to meet her. But not in the institution. Here, at home, we will make it comfortable for her. You are with me right! I know this will hurt you too if she goes back into her old pain but we have try and help her give some happiness. We will bring her this weekend and get her to help us in our shopping and preparation. I want her to know that she is wanted and needed by her sons. Maan's eyes mist over and Abs goes to him and puts her hand on his face and says

I am with you Maan! I will help you get your Mom into your house. If Daadi and you are looking at bringing her then we will.

Vicky also goes to Maan and puts his arms around both and says, okay bhai. You feel so strongly about this then we will. He looks at Nargis who nods silently her assent at the idea. She had been overcome with emotion for these brothers who were so strong outwardly but so soft on the inside. She wanted to meet his mother and daadi.

She then spoke clearing her throat, I will help in any way you guys feel I can be of help. She still did not feel part of the circle there. Abs seeing Nargis standing a few feet away, opens the arms calling her into the circle, touched, nargis walks into this circle, of people who have started meaning to her so much more than she had ever thought she will ever feel for anyone. They all hug each other and smile and resolve to be together through any ordeal that comes to them, as a family.

Wow...so sweet...loved Maan's memories of when Vicky was a BABY.....its sad that there are so few memories.....there should have been many many more.....And Thanks Abs...for including me in the circle!!

And now Abs and Nargis will make a resolve to create a boatload of happy happy memories for the Khurana Men individually and collectively as a FAMILY....right Abs???

So sweet the way Maan got teary eye....and how Vicky felt his pain....and didn't want his brother to suffer anymore. Looking forward to the next update!!!!
