Drabble One - When I Was Your Man

The sound of her footsteps approaching the empty classroom was all that was needed to send shivers down his spine, the sound of her faint breathing was enough for her presence to be made. The footsteps got louder and louder until she entered the classroom.

He closed his eyes and told her what he should have told her a long time ago, he told her what she should have known before Parth Kashyap came into the picture - now, despite knowing it was too late, Randhir told her.

His pride, his ego had been above everything else earlier, but now that he wanted to clean up the mess he made, he knew that he could never do it. Yet he still told her.

"Sanyukta," he whispered hoarsely into the dark classroom, knowing she would be able to hear him, "I love you."

His words echoed in the classroom that contained nobody but two lonely souls - the classroom that existed only for Randhir to confess his love to the woman who meant more to him than his own existence meant for himself. His eyes sprung open when he saw Sanyukta with tears in her eyes in front of him.

He knew she was with Parth, he knew that his heart had already been trampled on, and he would happily let it be trampled on again, but love for him meant more than that. Love for him meant expressing his feelings.

And express his feelings for Sanyukta he did.

"I love Parth," was all she said in a monotone voice, before she turned around and walked out of the room, leaving Randhir in the darkness, all alone.

Who knew that a heart that was already broken, could break again?

Through the tears that prickled the corners of his eyes, he smiled, knowing that people never fell in love, they rose in it, because love made you stronger. He remembered the time him and Sanyukta fought, competed, kissed, felt attraction towards each other, and knew that keeping those moments in his memory would heal his broken heart.

"And I love you Sanyukta," he whispered through the darkness.

Drabble Two - Dancing On My Own

Their laughter loudly echoed in his ears, as he saw them holding hands in the hallway. His face held nothing but love towards the woman who found love in someone else.

He wasn't bitter. He would never be bitter. Sanyukta gave him enough to hold on to for the rest of his life. Sanyukta was the reason he learned to appreciate the feeling that had been contained in his heart.

He had thrown away all of his ego the day he confessed to Sanyukta that he loved her - but she loved Parth by then.

Randhir was happy for her because the feeling of love was the most liberating feeling in the world.

It didn't matter to him that she loved Parth and not him. All that mattered to him was that the girl he cared so much for, the girl he loved with all his heart, found love in someone who would take care of her.

She found love in Parth, just like he found love in her.

He could see them feeding each other with love in the cafeteria, gossiping on the stairway after class, he even caught them kissing behind the college building once. That was how the next two years flew by.

Randhir smiled on the final day of FITE.

He smiled because he loved her, he smiled because she was happy, and he also smiled because she finally got first rank that year.

Drabble Three - I'll Turn My World Right Around For You

Randhir didn't expect to see Sanyukta again. He expected her to be happy in life, perhaps even married to Parth - but she found him. She found him at his house two years after they graduated.

It was midnight when he heard the knock on his door. Upon opening it and noticing Sanyukta there in tears, he took her in his arms right away.

"Randhir I'm sorry, I'm such a bad person because I'm coming to you in my time of need. But you're the only one who understands me," she whispered, breaking down in his arms.

Randhir only felt love towards the girl in front of him, and he didn't want anything else. He remained quiet, stroking her hair as she broke down in his arms, her fingers clutching his shirt tightly.

"Parth broke up with me," she finally let out.

Randhir felt like he had been hit in the chest with a bullet. He trusted Parth to keep Sanyukta happy for the rest of his life, but Parth hadn't only let her down, he let Randhir down too.

"Parth said that he confused friendship with love. It's been three years Randhir," she sobbed, "How could he say that?"

Randhir wanted to know the answer to that question too, but he just remained quiet and rubbed her back to soothe her, to comfort her, and to calm her down. He continued to hold her in his arms to let her know that she wasn't alone, that he would be with her every step of the way.

"He said I've only actually been a best friend to him and he... he might have found love in someone else," she whispered through her tears before breaking down once again.

He didn't enjoy seeing her in so much pain. It bothered him that Parth of all people would let her down, the one person who was probably the nicest anyone could get.

Randhir spent the whole night in silence as Sanyukta continued to sob in his arms. When she finally fell asleep, Randhir picked her up and put her in his bed, wiping away the fresh tears that were still on her face. He covered her with a blanket then proceeded to sleep on the couch that night.

OMgeee!!! Where do I begin lady!? I mean WOW! These drabbles should be called a SS! Of course the story-line is ingenious! (😉)

I really don't know what else to say actually! Your flaw over your language and vocab is just admirable! Brilliantly poignant!

Drabble Four - Look After You

When he woke up, the first thought on his mind was Sanyukta. Upon reaching his bedroom, he noticed that she wasn't in bed. His blanket was folded neatly. Smiling to himself, he walked out of his room and found her in the kitchen, holding a cup of tea out for him to take. This simple act triggered a memory where he accused Sanyukta back in their first year that she wouldn't make a good house wife.

She was in the same clothes she wore yesterday, her hair was tied, and she was looking down, a sad expression on her face. Randhir took the tea from her hands and sat down on the kitchen table. "Thank you," he finally said, after a long night of silence.

This made Sanyukta look up, as if she was stunned to hear his voice after so long.

"Randhir," she whispered, sitting across from him, her face paler than chalk, her eyes a bloodshot red. "I have to go."

"Sanyukta, promise me you'll be okay," he said firmly.

She looked down and he could tell that she was very hurt. Seeing her in pain felt like he had a thousand needles stabbing him at once.

He couldn't help but blame himself. If he hadn't been late in expressing his feelings for her, he would give her no reason to complain, he wouldn't even let her heart get a little scratch. He would keep her happy forever.

It was his fault.

It was only because of him that Parth got to her before he could.

She nodded slowly, but avoided his gaze.

"Sanyukta, will you stay here with me for a few days?" he asked her on impulse, knowing it was a long shot, but he didn't trust anyone else around Sanyukta now. Their jobs were in the same area and he could drive her to work too if she chose to go. If not, he would take a leave with her.

Randhir knew that he would need to bring her smile back to her face, even if it meant that he would bleed while picking up the broken pieces of her heart.

Sanyukta nodded slowly.
