Part 2
"Princess, we are going to be late." Manvi could hear her dad calling from downstairs.
She hurried down the stairs with her backpack. "Dad I'm fourteen years old, please don't call me princess in front of your friends."
"Oh my baby's all grown up." Mrs. Chaudhary said.
"Mom, did you know yesterday at the supermarket he called out princess for the whole store to hear. It was so embarrassing. "Manvi said.
"Oh honey you'll always be daddy's princess even when you're married and have kids of your own. " Manvi's dad said.
"Fine, I'll be your princess at home but please don't call me that on your work trip." Manvi said.
He just smiled and picked up the bags to load the minivan.
Mr Chaudhary's work place was going to Goa for the weekend and he was taking the entire family with him. Manvi was not too happy to go away with people she had never met, but she didn't have a choice on the matter.
"We just need to pick up the Vadhera's on the way." Mr Chaudhary said.
"Who, Dad you never said we were going to ride with anyone else." Manvi started complaining. "The weekend hasn't even started and I'm already dreading it."
"You've met Uncle Inder, he has a son about the same age as you I think he's about 16. You'll be great friends. Trust me; you're going to love this holiday." He went on.
As soon as the vehicle stopped at the Vadhera's house Manvi immediately went to catch a seat in the back and put on her i-pod. She wasn't the kind of person to make friends easily and she was dreading the next few hours in the vehicle with a strange boy who her dad assumes will be her best friend.
Manvi had her eyes closed listening to the music and didn't hear anything until she felt a tap on her shoulder.
She opened her eyes to see a tall, fair and somewhat built guy sitting next to her. She had to admit he was quite good looking.
"Hi, I'm Virat, you must be Manvi." He said, putting out his hand. "What you listening to."
"Iktara," she said.
"So you like Hindi movie songs. I've watched Wake up Sid a few times." He said.
Manvi didn't say anything but continued to listen to the songs on her iPod.
"So have you been to Goa before." He was going on.
"This guy seems to want to talk all the way to Goa."Manvi thought to herself and removed her headphones from her ears.
"Yeah, I went last year with my cousins, but this time is going to be no fun. I hardly know anyone." Manvi said and couldn't believe that she had just spoken a whole sentence to him. That hardly ever happens.
She was a very reserved girl who always took time to make friends. But there was something different to Virat he made her feel comfortable and that made it easier to talk to him.
"So what are the other songs you have, I left mine at home. Dad was in such a hurry, he didn't let me go back." He told Manvi.
That was the shortest ice breaker ever for Manvi and by the time they reached Goa Manvi and Virat were sharing their headphones and listening on the same iPod.
"We are here everyone. "Mr Chaudhary said.
"Hey thanks for sharing the ipod. I'll meet you after we settle in. I don't know anyone either so let's hang out while our parents do all boring old people things." Virat said with a smile.
He picked up his bags; Manvi couldn't help but notice his chest through the two open buttons on his shirt.
"I'll come by your room later." He said and winked at me.
"See I told you, you and Virat will become good friends." Mr Chaudhary said. "He's a very nice boy. Inder has only praise for him."
"Well," Manvi thought to herself. "Don't think it's going to be a bad weekend after all. What with such a gorgeous guy. I'm going to have the time of my life. "
Manvi suddenly heard a knock on the door. She suddenly came back to reality. She had dozed off.
"I saw the light on." Mrs Chaudhary said as she opened the door to Nishi's room. "Are you feeling alright darling? Do you want anything?"
"No mom, I just dozed off, will get up and study a bit more."Manvi said.
"Sweetie, you know you can tell me anything right." Mrs Chaudhary said.
"It's nothing mom, I'm just tired with all these exams." Manvi said.
"Alright then, but don't stay up too late." Mrs Chaudhary said and came over to stroke Manvi hair and give a kiss on her forehead.
"Your dad and I love you so much and want you to be happy always. I know it's hard for you to go away to Delhi for University but it's the best University in the country and if Dad's job wasn't in Mumbai we would have left everything to come with you." Mrs Chaudhary was going on.
"I know mom, I want to go to that University too, just wish I didn't have to get on a plane every time I need to see you." Manvi said.
Manvi's mother smiled and Manvi leaned over and kept her head on her mother's lap. Mrs Chaudhary started stroking Manvi's hair, she always loved the secure and loving feeling she got every time she was in her mother's arms.
"I'm going to miss this mom." Manvi said.
"Come now get some sleep. You can study more in the morning. If your dad wakes up he'll start worrying." Mrs Chaudhary said.
"Ok mom," Manvi said. Her mom waited for Manvi to get into bed and then closed the door while switching the lights off.
In bed Manvi went back to thinking about Virat, how he had gone out of his way to make friends with her. The weekend had gone by so fast she hadn't wanted it to end. They had wanted to keep in touch which they had for a few weeks but Uncle Inder had been transferred to Delhi and that was the end of them keeping in touch.
"Urghhh!! I can't believe I'm still thinking about him. I've never felt this way about anyone. But I need to get over this obsession. I will never ever meet him. Who knows where he lives now." Manvi went on to herself.
"This is not healthy at all." She said and closed her eyes and falling asleep.
Let me know what you think.
