I agree to Krani in above comment. It really hurts to see your own work copied by some one else. You genuinely requested to give a new readers a chance but how writers are supposed to find out which readers are trustworthy ? So they chose to boycott all of them. Nevertheless I agree that true readers suffer too. even I have gone through that same pain. And it's a loss of both writers and readers that creative and good writing can't reach to many people.

But what I feel is, it's responsibility of both writers and readers to stop such illegal job. Readers can keep a watch if someone is copying any writers work and bring that to notice. And whole IF should ban that culprit from forum. Or strict action should be taken against him/her.

Hope soon these dark clouds get cleared and all good writers shine again with their beautiful writing as earlier...😊

one of the reason plagiarism happen is because of the reader.. they share the writers work at FB and their personal blog..Before doing so they should ask for the writer permission.. But even after the writer refused their request but still share the fanfics link..

Last time when i was a reader i used to read 10+ day just because they are awesome.. but know seem like all the writer have move to their personal blog to continue their journey.. And this is what a writer should do to protect their work..

as im a writer now.. I hardly ready any FanFics.. There was a writer which i admire till now but due to some reason she left IF but the happiest thing was she was back to continue but after one months she quit IF again..

If this is what a writer get from their reader then they shouldnt continue writing here anymore..

As much plagiarism hurt readers.. Thousand time more plagiarism hurts the writer..

yah i completely understand how you all feel because i am a writer and reader too and because of plagarism many of my favorite stop writing. it hurt alot when you follow a story from begning then its discontinued due to this issue
ans i simply dont understand people why do they copy others work. if they want to write they can do it them selves, if they dont know how to they can ask someone i am sure anybody be ready to help them why copy others work.

Its like an emotional draining and you feel furious.

Plagiarism and wrongful sharing has happened with my work a number of times making me feel uncomfortable in posting my work on IF and the fact that IF doesnt seem to view the issue seriously makes it worse. If India-Forums took to punishing the offenders more severely than it does and also gave us more security regarding our work by way of methods like NOCOPY I dont think many writers would mind coming back on IF. Its just the fact that they need to respect writers and their work.

But yes, I am sorry for the innocent readers but how can it be helped guys when people among the readers only are responsible for such things?

AngelTeen,
I have seen your index...I have also read most of the precaps you have posted about your stories..They have been so beautifully written that readers like me can't help but request you to share your work...But you've posted in your profile not to PM you for the blog link...

I understand the ordeal you've been through with plagarism and the difficulty you have in trusting someone new like me...But a genuine question I have is, do you not want new readers at all? If the answer is no, then what about the previews of all the stories you've posted?

I would absolutely LOVE to read your work...I sooo badly want to read your stories about Arnav's repentance... But I can't.. ..Only because I found you too late and couldn't prove myself as a trusted reader...
Tell me what should sincere and genuine new readers like me do to be a part of your reading network? I would really like to..

We must pressurize IF to implement stricter rules regarding FFs and plagariasm...I really appreciate your initiative against plagiarism and I've shared the link to your thread in my post...
In your thread, could you also give the usernames of the mods and people we need to PM to take stricter action against this issue?

See the thing is, for many writers when their work gets plagiarised by one of the readers it's almost like a breaking of trust - something that can take ages to build up.

So you restrict your blog to only those you absolutely trust and know would never hurt you in that way and therefore you feel secure to post your work again.

Also the fact that most readers here remain silent makes it harder for us writers to trust them because we don't know whether they are just reading our story and not commenting because they are shy, or because they are doing it and plagiarising elsewhere.

Anyway, I understand that as genuine readers it would frustrate you too.
I guess this plagiarism affects both readers and writers.

All I can ask of you is to take a stand against plagiarism and not against the writers who restrict their work.
I ask you to help make this forum safer by reporting the writers who plagiarise, by not commenting on those threads and by constantly helping the writers scout for plagiarised work.

Thanks,
~K

Krani,
First of all...I am a a relentless stalker of your story "Arranged Marriage" :) I also loved your OS "Bad Deal". I simply love the way you write and I have appreciated that through comments several times...Thank you so much for not restricting your work 😊

I would like to clarify that I did not mean to take a stand against writers who restrict their work...Its just that as a new reader, the most you can do is PM, scrap or email the writer several times and convince them through your words that you are genuine and would like to genuinely become their reader...I have tried to do that several times with little success...Some writers are so rude that it makes me regret that I asked them in the first place...

I am not a silent reader...the writers I follow would know that...you would know if you checked the comments on your thread...But other than commenting, I don't scrap or PM them later or try to get to know them better or anything...How many of us want to share our personal lives with people we don't know...
How do writers like you figure out who your trusted readers are? Are they only the people who've made an effort to know personally you through IF? How would you select readers if you make your blog private?
What should readers like me do in our predicament? How should we prove that we are not dangerous?

I must admit recently I am going through the same dilemma of who to accept as a new reader and who not. Because there are no strict consequences on IF for persons who plagiarize, it makes writers very wary and we no longer know who to trust. It is very difficult. I wish to give everyone a chance as I truly want to share my work with readers, but every time I accept someone and give them access I know I am also (very unfortunately) increasing my chances of being plagiarized.

I do thank you for making this post serendipity, as I think a lot more genuine readers need to realize of the real issue at hand. It's not necessarily the writers being mean and not responding, but the true problem is this pink elephant in the room known as plagiarism that many people are ignoring to acknowledge. It is making both writers and true readers suffer.

Thank you very much for responding...You've clearly put acrosd the author's point of view of the case...Is there anything we can do to change things in IF?
I know there's a software that detects whether work has been plagarized or not...But I dont know how useful that would be here because plagiarizers don't post on IF i guess...they usually post elsewhere right?
Is there any way we can prevent the text from being copied? There are websites that use that feature right?

There are softwares that detect plagiarism as well as websites that do the same. Some are free and some are paid services. Plagiarizers are shameless and they will post on IF as well and other online sites just the same. Since there are no strict rules preventing this problem from happening on IF currently, some of us are taking a stand and trying to spread the word about it. It's about time this forum wakes up to this epidemic so readers and writers stop suffering, and these copycatters get proper punishment. Yes...it terribly hurts the authors...but it also hurts new readers who are treated rudely and suspiciously by the authors...Not every reader is a plagiarizer...
But we genuine readers WILL support our writers the best way we can...😊
