Hello there :)

I agree with the comment above^ . The response for all stories and all readers is'nt the same. Some stories are really simple yet attracting that it will keep maximum readers hooked for the chapter even for a month but some of them are complicated like mysterious one and same type genres that readers will eventually scatter away from your story.
For me for any kind of story, updating twice a month is okay, maybe thrice if a writer gets time eg. some unexpected holiday or breaks which we can utilize for writing.

From a reader's perspective, I can wait for one and a half or two weeks for an update.

Editing, in my opinion doesnt take much time. Actually, I dont edit my works, I write them and post directly.

In my free day, I dont prefer writing when all the family and friends are surrounding me.
I always write at night when there is no one around you. For me, I can get the update done in just 2 hours maximum. Otherwise if I write it in the day time, it takes even more than 10 hours.

The minimum words I would like to have in a chapter if a writer is updating after every 2 weeks is 1500. In two weeks, we can always imagine what will happen in our story and pen down each scene when we get time. Like 200 words each day or something like that. This way the burden can be lessened, writing 200-300 words daily in a hectic schedule isnt that much of a problem.

Now all you need to see the trends of works for your day and weeks, decide according to that. I hope I was some help 😊

Hi 😊
Yeah I agree as well. Response for stories differ and readers are all different.
I would like to hope none of my readers scatter away. If they do, fair enough, I failed to keep them hooked. I'm grateful they read as much as they did.
Twice a month seems realistic. It could work. I don't have much regular time, maybe the twenty minute bus ride extended by a traffic jam. I used to write into the early hours of the morning to fit everything in but I can not do that again.
I write a lot. Usually like 4 pages of a MS word document in one update. Then I try to give multiple updates every time I post. I try to edit the best I can but sometimes some mistakes remain but when it's complete I'll go back and edit it all once more properly. So getting things down is not a problem, scheduling, organising and fitting it in is. It's why I only write one as well. Couldn't handle more than one.
My trends are not going to help. They shift around a lot and I kind of want to establish the approach now. Want to try something different so I don't fail at it.

Hopefully they wont :)

You can cut short the multiple updates and give one update twice a month, thats the only suggestion from me which, in my opinion, can be a little comfortable for you.

Maybe you can sometimes ask your friend to edit it for you? Or maybe you can take help from beta readers for this purpose?

In updating twice a month, we have almost around 14 days for each update. You can write for some days eg. 7-8 days and then give the rest of the days, atleast half an hour from your day to editing and organizing.

You should surely try the beta readers

The multiple updates are because I don't update regularly, I don't PM anyone and I used to not give many teasers. My way of making it better for my readers considering I don't do anything like normal writers. Plus it's become a habit so I can't change the multiple updates. They're now a tradition.
I don't think I can ask my friends. They read my work and I want to surprise them so it would ruin my surprise. Beta readers? I'm not sure if I need them just yet.
Twice a month seems alright. Maybe I could give that a go. It seems the best option so far and I really want to sort this out.

Oh I can understand, but once you set a routine yourself according to your life eg updating twice a month, everything will fall into place :)

Teaser are not necessary in my opinion. You can give them maybe for some highly awaited chapter or so...

Just have one of your friend who can give you honest opinions and suggestions maybe if it can work out, it will be easy for you i guess

I have not tried beta readers yet too but I think you should atleast try once and have an experience, maybe it can work well for you?

My life no longer has a routine. So it's not going to settle down. That's my problem. It's a long story and in the end it just means that I can't guarantee anything but I want to find a mechanism by which I continue to write my story and be regular.
They're not? Oh! I saw a few people do it and thought maybe it would help mine. I guess not. I don't really no what works and what doesn't as everyone's situation is different.
I don't want to inconvenience my friends as they are very busy as well and well I don't have many friends who are writers.
I don't think I need a beta per se yet. I just need to fit the time in somehow to edit my work. Later on if I need them then I'll definitely visit them.
It's my first FF and well it's been quite a varied experience.

Teaser are good but its really not necessary! Yeah you are right

Its your first FF? Then i can understand. But personally I think that let some time and chapters pass, you will get into the flow. In my first FF, I used to write on mobile, copy it on word, read it like 100 times and it would take so many hours and so many mistakes used to be there. But now in my second SS, after writing so many OSs too, you get into the flow to write correct sentences without grammar errors and spelling mistakes. Mistakes happen then too but less. So for now just try to make your own schedule and after some months it will settle itself

Yep it's my first but I've been writing it for over a year now so I'm not really a newbie. I've just been writing really slowly. It's terrible but just the way it's been and worked out. I just thought after failing at doing it properly for a year maybe I can do it better this year.

Though youre a writer for a year but maybe you have given less updates? Because I started it in August 2014 and by Jan 2015 I dont even edit my works, I am not saying that it now doesnt have mistakes but then when you come in flow then it automatically lessens the mistakes. I used to give 2 updates weekly before and wrote many things in just those 4-5 months
Hopefully you will do better, just focus on what you are writing so you can try to write it correct in the first place(eg grammar and spellings) then you wont have to edit it again and again :)

I'm on update 90, is that too less for a year? 😕
Definitely agree that I want to get into the flow which will help.
I don't think I'm cut out to be a FF writer. But it's a nice experience so I'm happy enough to have gone through with it.
