Vijay Sethupathi responds to casting couch allegations: ‘She has her few minutes of fame’

Actor Vijay Sethupathi, known for his diverse roles in Tamil and other regional films, has finally addressed the casting couch allegations made against him by a woman named Ramya Mohan. The actor, in an interview with Deccan Chronicle, dismissed the accusations and claimed they were part of a pattern of false targeting aimed at smearing his name.

Ramya Mohan had alleged through a tweet that Vijay exploited a young woman under the pretext of industry norms. She claimed the survivor is undergoing rehabilitation after facing long-term manipulation. The tweet also made broader accusations about casting couch and drug culture in Kollywood and tagged Vijay’s official X handle. Following widespread attention, the tweet and the account were deleted. No further details about Ramya Mohan’s identity are publicly known.

Reacting to the accusations, Vijay said, “Anyone who knows me even remotely will laugh at this. I know myself too. This kind of filthy accusation can’t upset me.” He added, “My family and close friends are upset, but I tell them, ‘Let it slide. This woman is obviously doing it to be noticed. She has her few minutes of fame, let her enjoy it.’”

The actor clarified that while such claims do not disturb him personally, he has taken legal steps. He confirmed filing a complaint with the cybercrime cell regarding the now-deleted tweet. “We’ve complained to cybercrime. I’ve faced all kinds of whispering campaigns for seven years. Such targeting has not affected me so far. It never will,” he said.

Vijay also hinted at possible motivations behind the timing of the accusations, stating, “My new film is doing well. Probably, some jealous elements think that by tarnishing me they can damage my film. It doesn’t work that way.”

Despite maintaining a largely controversy-free public image over the years, Vijay’s statement indicates he has dealt with multiple such attempts in the past. While the matter remains limited to online allegations so far, his response suggests he is not taking the issue lightly and intends to pursue it legally.
