Part 15 Repeating History
It was the wedding of Anjali and Shyam's son Jai. The reception was over 15 minutes back and Arnav and Khushi were getting to bed, when there was a knock on the door.
Groaning, Khushi got up and tightening the rope around her dressing gown, opened it and came face-to-face with her teary-eyed 23-year-old daughter.
"Arushi?" Khushi asked, concerned at her daughter's tears.
Arushi hugged her Mother and started to cry and Khushi tried to calm her daughter, while consolingly patting her back.
Arnav, who was resting with his eyes closed waiting for Khushi to come back, sat up alertly hearing the familiar sobs. He saw his wife holding onto her sobbing daughter and got up worriedly and walked to the duo.
"What's the matter…?"
"I don't know…" Khushi said. "Arushi, calm down. Tell me what happened?"
Arushi looked to and fro between her parents and pushed past them and sat down on the bed, while her parents exchanged a worried glance.
She looked at her Mom, and grumbled. "It's about Arjun…"
Khushi stilled and looked at Arnav nervously who was instantly alert. "What Arjun who Arjun… You tell me, and I will take care of it…"
Khushi looked at Arnav and said "Well, your idea of 'taking care' is not needed in this… And she is talking about Arjun Malhotra…"
"Him? Ashish's brother?"
Ashish Malhotra was their first daughter Ayushi's husband.
"Yes… And this conversation will take place only if you plan to stay calm or you are exiting this room, taking along your temper… This is a delicate topic…" Khushi said.
"Delicate topic? Am I missing something…?"
"You are missing a lot, and you will find what you are missing if you DON'T be angry…" Khushi warned.
If Khushi was warning him that way, it must be something really big. And he didn't want to miss out on anything regarding his daughter. "Well, I promise…"
Arnav and Khushi sat on either side of Arushi. "Now tell your Mamma everything…" Khushi said, stroking her hair.
"Mamma, I told you I love him na?" Arushi started meekly, looking warily at her father, who as expected had jumped up startled.
"What the-! Why wasn't I told of this!" Arnav yelled.
"This is exactly why…" Khushi said, pointing at his face. "This is Mother-Daughter secret. You still have a choice… Keep your temper, or leave…"
"I am not going anywhere…" Arnav said through gritted teeth. "But she is too young for love and-" he began to grumble.
"Oho, aap toh chup hi rahiyye! Laad Governor! I was 20 when we get married!"
"Did he kiss you?" Arnav asked.
Khushi ignored the question and continued. "… At least she didn't marry him 3 years back itself…!"
"WHAT! She loved him since three years back!"
"Uff, no! I was just- NEVER MIND…" Khushi turned to Arushi. "Forget he is standing right there beta, tell me now…" she said softly.
"Arushi, have you both kissed?" he asked in a dangerously soft tone.
Mother and daughter ignored him.
"Well, he has been doing all nice things to me from the past few days…" Arushi started.
"Like?"
"I hope he hasn't kiss you yet…" Arnav frowned.
Ignored.
"He got me a bracelet! He even DANCED with me at the charity event… He has been sending red roses and he calls me Princess even!"
Khushi clapped her hands. "That means he loves you too! Why are you crying?"
Arnav had only one question. "Did he kiss you?" he grumbled.
"Today, he was dancing with someone else! Her name is Leanne or something like that! That chudail! You should have how he was smiling at her Ma! I swear, I could've killed her… I felt like ripping those fake eye-lashes she was fake-innocently batting at him…!" she ranted.
Khushi looked at Arushi in horror. "My, my! Your father's temper I see…!"
"Does that mean he hasn't kissed you yet?" Arnav asked again.
"God, DAD! We kissed okay! So what! Don't tell me you never kissed Mamma BEFORE wedding…!" Arushi screamed frustrated.
"I knew it! That Arjun! The minute he comes in front of me I will-"
"Arnavji, can you please go out…" Khushi asked sweetly "Or shall I push you out and lock the door on you face!"
"Fine, fine. I am sorry. Go on Arushi…"
Khushi turned to Arushi. "Is that all beta?"
"Mamma, that is not 'all'! How could he do that! I feel betrayed… The way he was dancing with her…"
Arnav and Khushi's gazes met, taking them back to a specific day in their lives.
*flashback*
Khushi smiled at Arushi. "He did something that your Dad did long back Arushi… Something equally, no EXACTLY stupid….!"
"Huh?" Arushi looked up sniffling and was shocked to see her Dad smiling at her sheepishly.
"I, uh tried to make your Mom jealous…"
"Jealous?" Arushi asked, confused. "By dancing with another-" she paused and her eyes widened in understanding.
"I see…! Mamma, are you saying Arjun is trying to make me jealous?"
"Yes I am…"
"Hey Dad, did it work…"
"It sort of did, but it backfired…" Arnav muttered.
"How?"
"I ran away… I caught a train to Lucknow and left…" Khushi replied smugly.
"How did Dad convince you…"
"He boarded the train too…" Khushi said, smiling.
"Ohhh! So should I leave on a train too?" Arushi asked thoughtfully.
"Don't torture the poor guy!" Arnav exclaimed.
"Haw! He would deserve it in exchange of his stupidity!" Khushi said.
"No, wait. I have a better idea… I will make him jealous too…" Arushi smiled happily.
"Thank God, your Mom didn't do that. She would surely have chosen that NK for the prank…And that idiot would have obliged." Arnav grumbled. "Anything for you Khushiji!" Arnav mimicked NK.
"What, Nanhe Chachu?"
"Yeah. He had a tiny crush on your Mom back then…"
Arushi giggled. "Still jealous Dad…?"
Khushi and Arushi laughed but they were interrupted by the entry of their 19 year old son.
"Arush?" Arnav asked surprised.
Arush looked at his Dad, dazed. "She left! It's all your fault!"
"Wha-" Arnav started.
"It's all because of your stupid advice!" Arush muttered.
"Excuse me?" Arnav started.
"Arush, what is it?" Khushi asked, intuitively knowing exactly what happened.
"Dad gave me a 'tip' he called it, but because of that Priya packed her bags and left!" Arush growled.
"What, Priya? Simran's sister?" Khushi asked, stonished.
Jai had just gotten married to Simran.
"Ah, well yes Mom…"
"Oh my God, my children are in loveee!!!" Khushi exclaimed.
"Well, mine just ended cuz of Dad!"
"What did you do Arnavji…."
"I-I just gave him an advice…" Arnav muttered.
"Yeah an advice to make Priya jealous and now she is on board a train to Allahbad!"
Khushi and Arushi blinked for a few moments before laughing, while Arush convinced himself that his Mother and sister had finally lost it.
Khushi turned to Arnav. "Arnavji, when you knew the outcome of that useless plan of yours, why did you tell him that?!"
"WHAT! What do you mean Mom?"
"Meaning, Dad used it on Mom, and Mom packed away to Lucknow!" Arushi giggled.
"But then how….?" Arush trailed off, pointing to Khushi and Arnav one after the other.
"Oh, your father boarded the train to convince me…."
"Boarded the train? Wait, now I should catch a train, no SAME train to Allahbad? Dad if you had told me before I would have ensured I had a reservation…!"
"You are Arnav Singh Raizada's son! You don't need a reservation!" Arnav scoffed.
"Well, me being your son didn't stop Priya from leaving!" Arush muttered. "Di, what do I do?"
Arush asked his elder sister. His final hope. She would know what Priya would expect of him… She was a girl too…
"Arush, simple. Just go tell her you love her… That'll be enough for her…"
"Are you sure or will this be a flop like Dad's idea…" he asked looking warily at Arnav.
"STOP IT! Really, why can't you see that my plan wasn't a flop!" Arnav asked indignantly.
The mother and kids turned to Arnav questioningly.
Arnav groaned in exasperation. "Well look at you two! THREE KIDS! Isn't that proof of the fact that my plan succeeded?"
"Besharam!" Khushi squeaked.
Arushi blushed. "Dad….!"
Arush grimaced. "Well, I have a train to catch! Excuse me!"
His incoherent mumbling could be heard. "And to think THEY are elder to me… Gross!"
Arnav chuckled, and just then Arushi's phone beeped. Arushi checked and exclaimed. "It's Arjun!!!!" Giggling, she went out of their room.
Arnav and Khushi looked at each other and smiled. Arnav leaned in to kiss Khushi, when the door opened and, Ayushi walked in.
"Oh come on! Get a room you two!" she scolded as soon as she saw their position. "You have three kids already!"
"Don't tell me you won't kiss Ashish as soon as your child is born!" Arnav asked.
"God, Dad! Mom how do you put up with him!"
Khushi chuckled. "I learnt to… So what happened?"
"Nothing really…. Arjun was so devastated after Arushi left so I adviced him to call her and I thought it better to inform you two that they are by the pool and please don't interrupt them…"
Arnav grimaced. "I wish we had someone who could warn others not to interrupt us while we were by the pool Khushi…"
"Excuse me?" Ayushi said incredulously.
Khushi blushed and ushered a mumbling Ayushi out of the room and locked it.
"Arnavji, aap bhi na…!" Khushi chided.
Arnav smiled at her. "Yeah I know… Besharam, khadoos Laad Governor… Woh toh main hoon hi…"
Khushi shook her head, and braced herself for what was coming next.
His lips touched hers, and like every other time that they had kissed, it felt like the first.
