Part 1
He walked out to get some fresh air, it never ceased to surprise him how the air just a few hundred kms outside his city, was not only fresh but endowed with some mystical rejuvenating powers. And that's why; he liked to drive at the first break of dawn ... soaking in every bit of that idyllic freshness. But that wasn't his favorite part, the best thing was stopping in the middle of nowhere, at an early hour, when the chilly air still stung your face, and you could actually rest your bare feet on the dew laden floor ... all of this set against the backdrop of the mighty river that roared majestically just a few hundred feet below where he stood ... and yet they owned this space, and the place belonged to them! He loved this because he could actually feel all negative bottled inside him slowly drain away and merge into that powerful river below; the same river that was both the life and the sustainer of life, all around.
"Sir, your tea?" he was distracted from his thoughts by a young boy, who was curiously ogling at his car, parked on the edge of the road next to the tea-shop.
"Thank you" Arnav looked up, to see the young boy, who didn't look older than twenty clearly fascinated by his new spunky car blurt out, "Porsche... Cayenne Turbo'wow" in sheer awe, even though the car needed a wash very badly, thanks the numerous landslides he had driven through to get to this point; it was a real beauty.
"Looks like we have a car enthusiast here...what are you doing tending in a tea shop at five in the morning?" he asked, a little taken aback, "First year mechanical engineering sir, I go to the local college here. I like to help my parents out when I can"
"Oh..." Arnav could only muster a faint apologetic smile but the actual words of apology refused to voice out. He still had trouble with that that damned apology thing, but it didn't mean, he didn't regret his words. He didn't say another word though, just walked out towards the edge of the road, sipping the tea in a tiny glass cup; he could see the river trail around the lush green hills, it was just pristine natural beauty as far as his eyes could see. Given it was a cloudy morning, it literally felt like he was swimming in the sky! In this isolation, away from work pressures and the prying concerned eyes of his family, he felt terribly at ease ... almost like he was home ... in a strange place. And so, this had become his routine escape from the crazy life of the big city. After every stop and the inevitable introspection that had followed, he had realized that there was no running away from himself though; no amount of running would ever rid his heart of the pain that ruled it entirely, the pain that went everywhere with him, haunted his dreams and traversed every dreaded path with him; he would have to live with it. Thankfully, he had learned to cope.
By now there was a slight drizzle, and he realized he had to make a move on, if he hoped to show up for the meeting at the site in less than five hours. Reluctantly, he made a move; he didn't get too far though, "Dammit, another landslide!" Some things never changed, like his temper that flared up every now an then, and that impatience when he was denied his way. A substantial traffic had built up already, and he had no option but to wait, for the crew to clear out the mess. The weather had turned ominous in the span of fifteen minutes which wasn't unusual for this part of the world. For the second time that morning, he found himself, walking out - only this time it started raining heavily, he ran back to his car, this wait is going to be long, he thought.
