You have all brought up the good point that what is or isn't acceptable has not been clearly stated. In fact, I am tempted to say that most of us probably don't have a perfect definition of graphic content, but we know what it is when we see it. That being said, the development team is working to try to create some guidelines that will help writers make sure their material is acceptable.

If you really pay attention to which specific FF passages we have had objections to and compare it to how many FFs there are in the forum, you will realize that we try to be as understanding as possible to make sure writers have some freedoms. Descriptions of physical proximity such as hugging and kissing have never been objected to, and neither have any simple mentions of sex. However, when we come across graphic and detailed descriptions of the act, we have to take action.
As you all are aware by now, the rule against explicit content is not something that we as the FF Development Team have come up with. It was decided by Vijay years ago and applies to the entire forum. You may not like the idea of censorship (I am also against it in most cases), but it is important to realize that this forum belongs to the owners. When you make an account here, you are agreeing to follow the rules or face the consequences. If Vijay wants this to be a family friendly site, that's what it will be. If you are looking for something else, there are many other places you can go. If you want the rules at I-F to change, well...you'll have to take that up with Vijay.
We as the FF Development Team are responsible for upholding the rules of the forum, and we are doing our best. We are open to further discussion about how explicit content should be handled, but we cannot make the decision to allow it. I hope you all can understand this.

I will disagree with the point that Description of physical proximity, or intercourse, is very dependent on how its perceived by the reader,

There are ffs wch have shown all this pretty decently and there ffs where even a 25 plus person cant read it, and will shut it down, its about the words and unnecessary description of the whole thing

There not "children" here yet quite young kids from 15 -18 who are curious to read things, to know things and perceive it differently. and may develop thoughts that can lead to implement it all practically too' its just matter of a little responsibility

Writers here are meant to write stories, things relevant to stories are okay, yet so many are going on tht only have such content and that so unnecessarily.

But will agree with the point if moderators will clearly tell here set of rules indicting what can b and cannot be wrote'

Thanks Mods for taking action

Hey I am not saying all content should be allowed. some stuff is seriously offending and off -putting.

but that is what. Let the moderators, content managers, take a look if it really is justifiable or presented in a decent fashion.

Granted it will take more effort, but it will be something that would work well with all. Since this really is subjective, get to know if the subject is merely a crutch to post erotica, or else.

Undeserved censorship will only curb creativity of the writers. and readers can catch that vibe and feel disappointment as well.

I just changed the title to "explicit content" instead of "adult content." I want to make it clear that mature themes are fine, but graphic descriptions are not.

Hope these guidelines will be prepared soon and thank you for the title change.

banning a beautiful story...a very very beautiful story...because it had a love making ( and read im not using the word sex..coz thats what it was...LOVE MAKING)..scene..which was perfectly in context and necessary for what the author had in mind for future plot...is not done.
its seriously not done.
i would request that when you see 'graphical content'(your words not mine)..please go through the entire ff..or at least give it a glance. then you would realise what im trying to say here.

case in point "the pandora's box"..was a heart meltingly beautiful piece of art..with a huge mature fan following(what are 12 year olds doing here..i ont even know).
we are all shocked and saddened by its pre mature ending.
please please please read the entire thing and then you will realise that the content wasnt explicit for the heck of it...it was needed..you would see the emotional depth that the story has...
please withdraw you censor here..coz it was really not needed...the author is mature enough to know what goes with the storyline and what doesnt..and trust me..so are her readers.

please please..consider my request!

Second this request.

I would love to know if the mods do indeed read an entire FF before sending out Warning PMs or if they just take the word of one or two immature (and possibly jealous) readers before they make the decision to raise WLs or ask for FFs to be closed

People who are online on a forum like this are definitely educated, and most likely rational. They know what they are stepping into.

Moreover, the authors need to be given freedom to write as they wish, and not succumb to such pressures. I, like Nayika, think that, the forum moral police needs to thoroughly go through an ff thread, and look out for posts by the authors as well as readers.

For a few juvenile people, everyone doen't need to be put in misery!

If it was saddening for someone write the original post, it's even more saddening and frustrating for the rest of us to have to read it.

One point specifically that I would like to call upon is whether it is necessary to be explicit and po*nographic (with a * for some reason coz apparently people cannot even bring themselves to say the word it seems). By this, if what is being implied is whether it is necessary to describe the lovemaking scenes, then I think it's as necessary as describing any other scene. Without descriptions of scenes, the story can just be: "X met Y. X and Y fell in love. There were a bunch of issues, but X and Y sorted them out and are now married. End of story." It's the dialogues and description of every scene that spans out into a beautiful piece of fiction.

In a Utopian world, our not writing adult content on IF will ensure that the IF audience doesn't read any adult content. However, the world is anything but Utopian. If someone has access to IF, that person/kid/whoever has access to all the adult content available online. The counter argument to that of course is that they have chosen not to go and read all that content outside IF. Well, they can very well exercise that choice right here on IF and not read the content which is marked adult.

This is an online forum and, let's face it, not the only one. There are thousands of online forums in the world for various works of fiction - televisions shows, books, movies even. Instead of being ostriches with their heads stuck in the ground and ranting about the same things daily, I think we should all behave like the adults that we are (excepting the 9 year-olds mentioned, of course), and try to think forward to a solution.

Like I mentioned, there are thousands of online forums for various works of fiction which have sections for fan fiction. All these forums have fan fictions of various ratings. The measure they take is to have a restricted section, so to speak. Different forums call it by different names, but the gist is this: within a fan fiction section, you have a section for fiction with adult themes/content. You have to sign up separately, accept terms and conditions, confirm your age, receive an email to that effect in your inbox and then be eligible to enter it. I think it's perfectly logical to have a system like that. So, maybe instead of making this a top-down forum with laws and rules just flowing on to our heads, just maybe this feedback can be taken from us to whoever can implement something of this sort.

It would be great to see some confirmation from a proper authority that they even got to see this feedback.
