Same Tuesday; Leelavati Hospital Mumbai

Maan entered the foyer of the hospital and walked in his usual full stride attitude towards his cabin. On his way he noticed the nurses and other female staff drooling over him. Any other doctor would have been pleased with the way girls were swooning over him but this was Maan Singh Khurana.

His self thought – how shallow these girls are. Today, they are all over me because of my looks, fame and money. But one hint of problem and they will run for greener pastures.

Somewhere all this attention was making him angry.

He reached his cabin and looked at his secretary - How are my appointments placed today? What time the surgery starts? How many surgeries are scheduled? Is everything in place? Maan fired the questions in rapid succession

Mrs. D'souza was by now used to her boss's mood. She was a 50 year old lady with a pleasing demeanor. She started informing him about his day's plan when his phone rang. Maan was irked but took the phone after looking at the caller id.

Maan - Yes Dad

Rishab – Maan, I need to talk to you urgently. Please come home now.

I am busy dad. Can't this wait till evening? Anyways we have a flight to catch as well. I need to close bunch of stuff before going to Delhi.

Maan…please

There was something in his Dad's voice. Dad, you sound upset. Are you ok?

Just come as soon as you can.

Maan felt as if his Dad's vice was choked. He asked Mrs. D'souza to rearrange whatever can be to his next day off and move the emergency surgeries to the afternoon. With that he rushed towards home.

As he entered the study, he saw his Dad talking to a girl.

Please I need your help for now. I need you to convince Maan as well. I will tell Dad and Mom everything after a week and then they can take care of everything including expenses. But please till then…..I have no one else to help me.

Maan groaned inwardly. Was this another charity case…Did his Dad called him for this. But he was shocked with what he saw next.

His father got up and hugged the girl tight. There were tears in his eyes and he shouted hoarsely with pain – shut up…just shut up. You call me bauji and then ask me for help and talk about expenses. The girl turned and Maan felt that he is seeing an angel in front of him. First thing which hit him were those eyes. Hazel colored eyes filled with so many emotions. They were windows to her soul and he was drowning in them.

His gaze moved to the oval shaped face surrounded by soft curly hair. Her skin was milky white and he was sure it felt like silk. He itched to touch her to confirm his assumption. He noticed the cheeks which had a red tinge from crying. His eyes flickered on her lips which looked like rose petals. His reverie was broken by his dad's vice –

Maan was surprised. Geet, what is she doing here. What's going on? There is a marriage to attend tomorrow. Is she in some trouble…there were multiple questions in his head...all he could say was – Hi…what a surprise…I am seeing you after 12 years. And why are you both so upset…what's wrong

Rishab came forward - Maan…you need to do something…Geet…

Rishab couldn't control anymore and broke down completely in Maan's arm. Maan was very worried now. He looked at Geet. Her face was pale and she looked quite stricken.

Maan frowned. Koi bataiyga…Aakhir baat kya hai

Geet told Maan about her disease. She also told him that it is her last wish to see her brother getting married. So for next week or so, she doesn't want to tell he parents anything. She also informed him about her pain and fainting episodes because of which she could not stay back in Delhi anymore.

Maan's heart lurched. He was used to seeing and treating patients everyday so he could not understand why it felt like his heart was shattering into thousand pieces. Why was it hurting? Why was it crying?
