Oh and before I forget a few dialogues are "spoken" in Hindi because it sounded so much better that way but otherwise you will find the Chapter in English!

Chapter 2

Suddenly, out of nowhere, car screeches stop in front of me and a figure steps out and I squint to the see the figure.

"Sumo..."

Breathe in. Breathe out.

"Pushy." I see him step under the street light and a chuckle escapes my lips. Soon those chuckles turn into a full blown out laugh that as much as I try I can't control and I let it out. I laugh and laugh and laugh until it becomes a cry of relief.

Sniffling and running the back of my hand across my face, I wipe away my tears and ask "What are you doing here?"

And now a surprised laugh escapes him, "What am I doing here? Well, let's see... My best friend just ran out in the middle of her own wedding, full Bollywood style that too and I had to come and check on her.

"Vaise Sumo."

"Hmm."

"Bahut time baad tune Sumo vala kaam kiya hai." He says with a smile that lights up a room and once again I laugh.

"Pushy..."

"You haven't called me that in a while," he interrupts with a soft smile.

"Pushy?"

"Sumo?"

"Accha lag raha hai." I tell him.

"Aur?"

"I feel like I can breathe for the first time in a very long time. That... that heaviness in my chest is not there and..." I take a deep breath through my nose and exhale "it feels nice." I finish.

"Ab?"

"Ab kya?"

"Ab kya karegi? Mummyji toh bahut gussa thi par Dadu ne do second mein unki bolti band kardi"

"Oh! Ab?" I ask him.

"Tu bata. Jo bolegi vohi hoga."

"Khana"

"Khana?"

"Bahut bhook lagi hai, Pushy! Chuhe tandav kar rahe hai," I whine.

"Sumo!!" Pushkar laughs and groans at the same time, stretching the 'O', "Tera kuch nahi ho sakta. Chal!"

I'm sitting on a park bench with Pushkar, both of us devouring the burger, coke, and fries that we could find at this time.

"Slow down woman! You'll choke!"

"Mmm," I moan. "This is so good. This running and all those emotions took a toll on me."

He laughs again. He seems to be doing that a lot and I ask him the same. "I saw you battling with yourself every day. You were not happy and if one looked hard enough they would have seen it too."

I put the burger down on my lap and stare ahead, finally giving him the answer to the question he asked me all those months ago, "I love him. I love Shravan, Pushy. I know I have hurt him so much over the last few weeks but this wedding was something I could not go through with... Even though he is never going to know about the love I've had for him for the last ten years I could not betray him or my love for him this way. I owe him that much. I owe myself that much."

"Finally," he replies, exhaling a breath.

"Finally," I affirm. "And how could I give my heart to someone else when it doesn't even belong to me? It hasn't belonged to me in ten years. It's always been his to have and hold."

A silence settles between us and for once I welcome the quiet around me. The silence isn't uncomfortable or awkward but relaxing. After a few minutes Pushkar breaks the silence and what he says leaves me surprised. "I know the reason behind why you were avoiding Shravan Bhaiya."

"What do you mean?" I try to deflect.

"Sir, blackmailed you, didn't he? And don't lie to me Sumo."

"How " I'm about to ask when it strikes me and I answer my own question. "Preeti."

"Yes. Preeti."

"I told her not to tell anyone."

"Why?"

"She's my sister and you are my best friend."

"Dammit Sumo!" He bursts out making me jump. "That does not mean that you had to sacrifice your love so that we could be together. You could have gone to Bhaiya and told him "

"Told him what, Pushkar?" I interrupt him. "That his father came to me with a blank cheque and told me to stay away from his son in return for your and Preeti's marriage? Or should have I told him that his mother never actually left him but was made to leave because his father forced her to by threatening her with a custody battle that she knew she would never win because it was his word against hers? Or do you want me to tell him that his father was privy to all the details about the land case and knew that the property that Shravan was fighting for was the one where PCT was located and he oh so conveniently hid that little detail because he knew that Shravan would never go for it or if he had gone ahead with the case he would have tried to help me out before the hearing.

Tell me, Pushkar, do you really think he would have believed me if I had told him all this? I'll tell you, no. He wouldn't have believed a single thing I would have had to say because the one time I did try by giving him the opportunity to bridge the gap with Nirmala aunty he said he didn't want to do anything with me. He hated me and the place the kept a small part of his mother's memory alive and would gladly shut down my PCT and see that's what he did, albeit unknowingly.

The truth is that Shravan never learned to trust me. He said he is my best friend but he never once understood the reason behind my doings. I admit what I did ten years ago in some way or the other shaped him the way he is today but he changed himself so much that he refuses to be the boy I once knew. Chashmish. My Chashmish. The boy who felt everything and lived to the fullest; who in a second would know that I was hiding something from him and always pestered me to share my problems." I let out in one go. Silence once again descends between us because as much as he may deny even Pushkar knows that Shravan would have never believed me.

"You know Pushy since we met I could clearly see the difference between us. He was the boy who embraced his nerdy-ness without a care about what everyone thought of him and then there was me who tried everything to fit into this world that I was thrust into. New place, new home, new family, new friends, a new school I... I was lost. I didn't know where I belonged and to this day I feel like I don't belong. Bullying, rebelling, trying to be the "cool" one were things that I never was but became because it kept people out. No one looked too close to me to understand the pain behind my smile. No one but your brother." I finish on a laugh.

"Sumo... Itna sab daba kar rakha tha? Aaj tak bola kyun nahi?" Pushkar asks in a whisper after a while.

I turn towards him and see his eyes pooled with unshed tears. "Kisko bolti jab koi sunne ko hi nahi tha. Dikhta sabko tha par puchta koi nahi tha. Aur jisko dikhta tha, jo sunta tha usko mene khud hi apne se door kar diya."

" You know, shayad Shravan sahi tha. Koi bhi mujhse khush nahi aur na mein kabhi kisiko khush rakh sakti hun."

I take a deep breath and tell him something that Shravan refused to listen to. "Pata hai, Shravan ko lagta hai ki mene uski help mana karke Aditya se PCT ke liye help li. Par sach toh yeh hai ki Aditya ne mujhe investors diye jinhone mujhe PCT ki jagah vapas di. But as always, voh apni conclusions pe aya aur PCT mein aake tod phod ki aur bola ki mein matlabi hu, self-centered and independent bahut hu. Aur haan hamari dosti ek khokla rishta hai kehke humare beech ke sare rishte khatam kar diye."

"Aur jab Shravan Malhotra ek decision le leta hai toh koi bhi kuch bhi karle voh apne decision se mukarte nahi." He completes what I was thinking.

"Hmm. Lawyer toh accha hai yeh toh pata tha aur Khosla ke against uss time dekha bhi tha but kitna accha lawyer hai voh ussne PCT mein aake prove kar diya. Apne opponent ko saamne khade bhi nahi hone deta. He literally rips them apart until nothing is left of them."

We both are quiet, lost in our own thoughts when somebody interrupts us.

"Itni baar bola ki best friend ho voh dimag mein kabhi nahi betha par ek baar bola gusse mein ki sab kuch khatam toh dil par le kar beth gayi?"

I quickly turn around and what I find behind me leaves me rooted to the bench.

"Shravan..."

I'm actually pretty happy with how this chapter turned out because this was not what I had planned. Lol! But once I started typing I couldn't stop. So if you liked it or didn't like it, either way, let me know! Constructive criticism is always welcome here. :D
