Chapter 1
"Manyata? Manyatta?" Mrs. Kapoor called again, and again she got no response from Manyata. She sighed shaking her head. "Hey, bhagwan, kya karoo main iss ladki ka?" She murmured to herself while climbing upstairs towards her daughters room. Reaching there she opened the door of manyata's room and found her exactly in the same position she knew she would find her, lost in a thick book totally forgetting the rest of the world. Mrs. Kapoor sighed again as she came near her daughter and then snatched the book from her hand.
Manyata jumped at this sudden gesture and then seeing that it was her mother sighed with relief. "Oh Ma! Aap hain! Apne to mujhe dara hi diya tha!"
Mrs. Kapoor : "Sorry beta tumhe daraneka mera koi irada nehi tha. Per maine tumko karib 100 ber bulaya hai aur tumne suna hi nehi!"
Manyata : "Oops. Sorry ma. Who mera dhyan iss kitab me thi na iss liye nehi suna honga. Achcha ab ap mere kitab wapas kijiye."
Mrs. Kapoor : "Nehi."
Manyata : "Kya! Per kyun? Ap mere sath aisa nehi kar sakti! I was in the last chapter! And I'm dying to know what happened next!"
Mrs. Kapoor : "Ab tumhe tumhara yeh kitab tab tak wapas nehi milenge jabtak tum iss bister (bed) se utarke aur phir nahake kuch kha na lo."
"Main yeh kitab khatam karne ke bad woh sab kuch kar lungi. Now give it back to me!" Manyata said now getting really impatient.
"No. You were awake the whole night with this book." Mrs. Kapoor complained.
Manyata : "Well I couldn't help it! This book is just so interesting and now you are simply killing me by not letting me read this!"
Mrs Kapoor : "You tell that about every book. Seriously Manyata tum humesha apne aap per itni torture kyu karti rehti ho? Ya to tum din raat office me kam karti rehti ho ya phir apni khana peena vul ke ek kitaab lekar beth jati ho. Kya tumhe yaad bhi hain ki last tumne kab khana khaya tha? Look at the mirror. Kya halat bana rakhi hai tumne apni!"
Manyata : "Ma aap bohut achche se janti hain ki main kaisa dikhta hu usse mujhe koi faraq nehi parta. Ab ap abhi mera kitaab wapas ki jiye verna aaj pura din main bhukhi rahungi haan nehi toh!"
"Theek hain lelo!", Mrs. Kapoor said fuming while she handed Jenny the book "Wese bhi tum to wahi karne wale ho jo tumhara man kare. Main hi humesha bewaja apni energy loss karti hoon." Then she started leaving the room while Manyata called out.
"Thanks Ma", Manyata said "and Ma?"
"Ha bolo?"
"I love you."
Mrs. Kapoor smiled hearing this and kissed manyata's cheek.
"I love you too beta. I just wish ki aap thora kam ziddi hoti aur thora jyada mature hoti."
"Per main to Mature hi hu!" Manyata protested cutely furrowing her eye-brows.
"Ha beta! Zaroor!" Mrs. Kapoor replied trying to hide a smile which was well noticed by Manyata and she got mad.
"Ma main mature hoon!" Manyata said then getting all serious and stressing on every single word.
Now seeing this Mrs. Kapoor could hardly control her laughter anymore. "Toh maine kab kaha ki aap mature nehi hain?" Saying this she left the room laughing while manyata crossed her arms in stubbornness and thought to herself, "Bhagwaan jane yeh log abhi bhi mujhe bachcha kyun samajhte hain? I mean I am perfectly mature right? Right. To mujhe iski bare me fiqar karne ki koi jarurat nehi hain haan nehi toh! " And then she started reading her book again.

After 15 minutes Manyata got up from bed, showered and went to the kitchen. Mrs. Kapoor looked at her and asked "Hogaya kitab panda?"
"Haan ma. Aur ab mujhe bahoot joro se bhuk lagi hain. Jaldi kuch khane do!"
"Oh to ab jake tumhe yaad aya ki tumhe bhuk bhi lagta hain!" Mrs. Kapoor said shaking her head while she served her breakfast. "Thanks God ki finally tumhe khane ke bare me yaad to ayi!"
Manyata didn't reply and just finished eating her breakfast quickly. Then she got up from the chair and reached for her car keys.
"Ab tum kaha ja rahe ho?" asked Mrs. Kapoor.
Manyata : "Uncle Brij ke ghar! Mujhe Jay se milna hai."
Mrs. Kapoor : "Theek hai! Ghar lautne ke waqt usse bhi apne saath ghar le ana. Main uske liye uski favorite cookies banaungi."
Manyata : "Theek hain Ma. Koushish karungi. Ab chalti hoon. Bye."
Mrs. Kapoor : "Bye aur suno..."
But before she could finish manyata interrupted her. "Mujhe pata hain maa 'Drive Carefully.'" She mimicked her mother. "Jab bhi main bahar jati hoon aap humesha mujhe ye ek hi baat kyun kehti rehti ho?"
"Taki tumhe yaad rahe beta." She replied smiling.
"Theek hain baba yaad rakhungi. Aab chalti hu. Bye." Manyata said hugging her mother and then left for Jay's house.
...
When manyata parked her car at her uncle's parking lot she saw another car parked beside her uncle's car. "Oh to ghar me mehman aye hain. Per kaun aya honga?" She thought as she got out of her car. She rang the doorbell and Jay opened the door.
"Hey!" Manyata greeted grining and hugging her cousin.
Manyata and Jay have been best friends since their childhood and their is a special bond between them that no one can break.
Jay didn't smile back nor did she returned the hug. She just looked at her with a pleading look. Manyata's heart sunk seeing her face.
"Jay! What's wrong?" she asked worriedly.
Jay opened her mouth to answer but before she could say anything she was interrupted by her father Mr. Brij Raj Sing.
"Manyata!" He exclaimed. "I'm so happy that you are here. You have a very perfect timing beta. Come in, come in. Humhe aapko kisi bahut hi khaas inssan se introduce karma hai." he said ushering Manyata in.
When Manyata entered the room she saw a stranger sitting on the couch. He was dressed in highly expensive cloths and was incredibly handsome. There was a hint of pride and arrogance in his looks and Manyata immediately decided that she didn't like this man.
"So Manyata," her uncle said beaming "here, I'm proud to introduce you to Udayveer Sing jo mere baachpan ka dost Giriraj Sing ka eklawta beta hain. Aur Uday beta, this is my dearest niece Manyata, Manyata Kapoor."
Manyata smiled at Uday saying "hello" and extended her hand for a handshake.
Uday didn't smile back and just gave her hand a brief shook. And at that moment Manyata started hating Udayveer Sing even more.
"Aur ab mujhe tumhe ek khush khabri bhi thene hain!", her uncle said excitedly.
"Oh really? Who kya hain?" Manyata asked curiously.
"Well Uday serf meri baachpan ka sabse achcha dost ka beta hi nehi hain, balki who humhari Jaynandini ka hone wala pati bhi hain!"
Manyata was shocked to death hearing this. She felt like someone has hit her at her head. She just stood there frozen in her place gaping at her uncle. And finally after a few seconds when she finally found her voice, she screamed, "Kya!"
