Yeah, Sushma probably was baiting the Nationalists on twitter, don't think this will make any impact in elections. I feel sad for her ,she just sounds like a call center agent at times. When was the last time we saw our Foreign Minister on a worthwhile diplomatic visit.

Jallikattu- It's hard to go against the sport because of crazy public sentiments. TN Govt will like to appease the public because of Chinamma & Mannargudi Mafia( hella scary).
Personally I don't know what to say, I absolutely abhor such sports but then you have Spanish Bull Fight and what not. But public is all pro for it..guess we need to find a middle ground..perhaps make it safer for everyone.

Difficult to say what ends up influencing people to vote for a candidate !

Just her !? 😆

A blood sport for entertainment does sound cruel and some people have called out for banning biryani along with the sport! I wonder if the two are comparable. Hasnt beef been banned in most states in India? There is also a growing sentiment that only Hindu traditions or festivals are being targeted as the animal sacrifice during Id continues unabated.
Another argument is that the Indian breed of cattle is in a declining mode & if the festival is abolished, it will further diminish rearing of these sport bulls.

^^Angie- Beef is banned in few states and even then I don't think anyone follows it seriously and there are many conjectures.Heck most of reputed food joints do sell them. It only becomes a major news thing when media flares it up.
Nothing can ban biryani in India but they should ban some hybrid biryani versions. Like Biryani Dosa.

It is a cruel sport but then farmers are really into it and like you said it may affect rearing. I believe Govt. will intervene and let this stay as it is, TN is as it is sensitive after Amma's passing.

In minority , I don't think Mawra-SRK have chemistry, more so , I am just done with watching SRK romance like that at this age. Looks very creepy.

Mission Served for appeasing Pseudo Nationalists on sns while Corporations and World Politics will be laughing at it. https://twitter.com/MEAIndia/status/819553199665258496
. The products weren't meant to be sold in India and yet the threat our FM issued was beyond silly and petty. Doesn't auger well for a country which needs FDI. 🥱

Product not being sold in India should be the only criteria?
Need FDI at what cost? Doesn't Amazon need India equally for its growth? Or is it some one sided relationship where India needs to treat them well but they can get away with anything? This isn't even the first time such products are being sold on Amazon, there have been complaints before as well.

Genie, if the product was not intended to be sold in India why use the Indian flag as a motif for a door mat? Why not the flag of the country where it was to be sold? Perhaps the people there fancy using flag motifs on their doormats and could use their own national flag for the same.

Not just Indian flags but it was made with many other flags too.Amazon's portal in Canada sells doormats with different national flags on it including the US. Yet India is the only country making it a silly issue. Meanwhile Amazon India sells doormats with UK flag symbolism , among other flags.

Are we really that sensitive that we should get offended by what people sitting in another country do with our symbols? Swastik and so much more? I would have thought about this and understood the hurt if it was India-specific and the product was sold in India.

In india they burn flags of US at lame points..does that mean US Govt. should interfere and crib about it on sns and issue a passive-aggressive threat.

I was able to find many major flags in doorstep format on Amazon.com. Yes, Canadian and American flags were on there too.

This is a pure case of cultural differences being misunderstood and hyped into overreaction. In North America - flag designs are popular. Patriotism in North America is expressed through kitschy pop culture. Patriotism is expressed in the same fervor of major league sports. It is not uncommon for North Americans to have flag designs on clothing and accessories. You will get toilet seats, underwear, garbage bags and even sex toys in flag designs. Having the stars and stripes or the maple leaf on these mundane items is not offensive but passionate.

I understand and respect why Indians are upset. In India stepping on a flag is disrespectful. Some things that North Americans consider as cool kitsch would be disrespectful in India. It is understandable for Indians to get upset and request Amazon to take it down. But to throw such a big fuss about it - thats ridiculous. And now you've prompted more people to buy Indian flag mats - just because.

Texas v. Johnson.

They legally can't even if they want to. 😆
