I don't personally think India is ready to host an event like this....it's been quite an embarrassment to see the pictures of the housing arrangements with the filthy bathrooms, snakes, monkeys whatever....and reading this article that return_to_hades posted about the reception the international players are getting on reaching the airport......only gives more fodder to the rest of the world to think of India as nothing more than a backward country of snake charmers and corrupt clunky bureaucracy.....It's just shameful that the pathetic politicians could not rise above their usual cheap antics to atleast save the pride of the country.

Hello some reality check please; this is what the world media thinks of the opening show

India delivers a spectacular show

World media dazzled by India's spectacular show

India has arrived; Guardian UK

ab bolo.

LOL thank you for the "reality check".....why do I exactly need to share the same opinion as the "rest of the world"?🤔

I expressed my opinion on what I thought of the opening ceremony, that's about it. To me they did look haphazard....definitely not world class....I've seen better opening ceremonies.....most recent one being the Beijing Olympics obviously.

You need not agree to World view (not mine). But trying to write off an economic giant like India is not possible now. Most of the countries like Oz & UK have come because they do not want to keep India on wrong side now.

Peace out 😊

How is this a matter of "writing off an economic giant'?? What is the worth of all the "economic progress" in the world if we had such FILTHY bathrooms to show for it?? For an event that has been in the making for what like four years now?? 10 days before that THAT is what we had to show??? These are the Commonwealth Games....hardly on par with the Olympics....does India seriously look in any position to even THINK of making an Olympic bid in the next 50 years....that too with THIS sort of track record for the CWGs?? I don't think so.

There are WAY too many infrastructure and corruption/bureaucracy problems in our country....and putting up one show of fireworks and a giant air balloon won't cloak that reality. I would love to know where these athletes have been housed right now....and what the facilities are like. And if the poor Canadian hockey team has gotten it's hockey sticks back from the custom officials yet.

^^ The coming years will answer most of your questions dear and also prove if I am wrong in my belief.

India & China would be so powerful be next 10 years that most of the trade would be happening in these countries.

I expect events to be held in Asia to a large extent (other than Brazil, Russia)

Yes your anger is justified and even I am furious at the way the money has been gobbled and mind it...

I am based in India I pay taxes and I am a sr professional. So it hurts me even more.

But I expect a lot of changes in next 20 years.

If things go wrong in CWG don't worry the world media will come to bite in arse, so we will know every detail, wait & watch, the game just begun.

As for UK, they haven't come so as to maintain 'friendly' relations with India. They are the reason why the CWG takes place in the first place. So they ought to come..It's their responsibility.

Not filthy bathrooms alone..Lol !! Just look at the other side of India- what is it? Poverty, slums, over population, corrupted politicians, etc...
As long as these matters aren't solved, India cannot be called an 'economic giant'. How on earth is it an economic giant when majority are living below the poverty line?

Btw, nureat01..Well said. 😊
People often mistake truth with not being patriotic..That happens often, lolzzz.

^^ I sited them as prototype example of a typical West state.

But didn't they threaten to pull out?

Hehehe..It worked, didn't it? Well, if they wouldn't have threatened, and without all the media intervention, things couldn't have been possible now. The reason they have been able to pull of a great opening ceremony is because of all these factors..
Great thnxxxx to the media for bringing all these out, and creating pressure on the officials! Otherwise, God alone knows what and how it would have been!

You are mixing up the two issues here....

First is India as rising economy. That we are; an undeniable, unstoppable economic giant. One of the very few countries in the World to have a economic groW*H to reckon with. (>6%over many years).

Poor infrastructure & living conditions in India; I agree to this, there is inequality & real problems, we have to go far.

But the clout to enjoy the intl significance is determined by the former and not later.

Any way I enjoyed the spectacular beginning just like the world did ...😃
