Chanakya's Childhood & Education
Chanakya was born with a complete set of teeth, a sign that he would become king, which is inappropriate for a Brahmin like Chanakya. Chanakya's teeth were therefore broken and it was prophesied that he will rule through another.
Rishi Canak named his son as "Chanakya". Being a teacher himself, he knew the importance of education. At a very early age little Chanakya started studying Vedas. The Vedas considered to be the toughest scriptures to study were completely studied and memorized by Chanakya in his infancy. He was attracted to studies in politics. In politics Chanakya's acumen and shrewdness was visible right from childhood. He was a student of politics right from child hood. Known as a masterful political strategist, He knew how to put his own people in the opposite camp and spy the enemy without his knowledge before destroying him forever. Chanakya was an ace in turning tables in his favor irrespective of the circumstances. He never budged to pressure tactics by the ruthless politicians. In this way after studying religion and politics, he turned his attention to economics, which remained his lifelong friend. "Nitishastra", a treatise on the ideal way of life shows his in depth study of the Indian way of life.
Before going into the details of his life as a student here are few details that occurred during his childhood in Pataliputra and which led him to move to Taxila.
When Chanakya was an year old a rishi saw him in his mother lap and told that "he will bring a revolution in entire Indian subcontinent. He will not be a witness to it but he will participate actively in it. Many kings will be dethroned, a new empire will be carved out of present kingdoms. He will become a king maker. He would be remembered for his Rajniti along with the emperor he is likely to create".
During those days when Chanakya was not more than 12, his father Chanak's friend by then the Prime Minister of Magadh ' Mahamatya Shaktar as every on calls him, both were childhood friends and attained their education near same Guru somewhere in a small village Kusumapura. Later Chanak was invited to Pataliputra by Shaktar after he became Prime Minister. Chanak was leading a life of a teacher.
The situations in Magadh were changing drastically for which both friends discuss to change / stop to the extent they can. The Magadh King was Nanda. Amatya Rakshas was a distant relation to Shaktar who was young and brilliant and he was appointed as an official near Nanda. Later things turned around and Rakshas became close to Nanda and shaktar was neglected by King.
Shaktar's daughter was Suvasini. He thought of giving his daughter to Rakshas but after seeing his actual intentions he withdrew the idea.
Chanakya was a tiny little boy dark complexioned but with attractive eyes was very talented like his father. He was stubborn from childhood. Chanakya has a soft corner for Suvasini (Suvas) which Chanak thought of and wanted to talk to Shaktar abt it.
But Shaktar was soon arrested and put in dark cell as he was against the king's deeds. Chanak sent his son n wife to kusumapura and started a violence against king that night during which he was also killed very cleverly and his head was hacked off. Chanak's friend Katyayan informed abt this to Chanakya n held a secret meeting. Chanakya then itself said to Katyayan that Vishnu no more exists from now he will be identified as Chanakya S/o Chanak. It seems that Chanakya didn't even cry a tear for his father as he wanted to dethrone Nanda then itself. But he was suggested to go to Taxila first to become strong enough and finish his education by Katayayan and he promised to take care of his mother as she is also his Guru Mata. Chanakya after performing his rites for his father he started towards Taxila.
