I am re-reading your commentary of E55 and watching it again.

Remarkably perceptive piece . You have analyzed Chandra's actions like a well trained Psychologist. It is marvelous Akka.

Finding new meaning in this game changing episode. 👏

Aunty your second post, Dawnbreak was also remarkably perceptive. The way you intricately pychoanalyse each and every minute bit of the characters just overwhelms me. I have found all these portions you have so beautifully described in both your posts very remarkable and interesting. It is a treat to read your analysis of the episodes even if it is after one week, two weeks, three weeks or even a month. We wouldn't mind waiting for them. My only request is that you don't over strain yourself or your fingers. All of us care for you!

What a dear child you are, Shailaja! I do not know what I would do without readers like you, or such affectionate nieces either! I must surely have acquired some extra punya in my last birth to have you and the rest of my girls around in my advancing years.

I am so glad that you enjoyed this two parter, for after finishing it, I was a little concerned as to whether it would look sketchy and disconnected, which in fact it was, at least the latter. But then I never meant to cover more than the highlights.

I think I shall enjoy the rest of the week as well, and do a weekly round up post latest by Sunday. For now, I am posting some mini-comments on the two episodes this week. Do take a look at them.

I loved your latest two parter in your FF. I was resting my hand today, but I shall try and comment on that diptych tomorrow.

Thanks ever so much, my dear Sri!

It was revealing, was it not, that second Chandra-Nandini encounter in that episode? It was only when I rewatched it for doing this round up in Part 2 that I spotted that clue to why Chandra launched his Takshashila exam campaign. Till then I too was, like Saraswathi Akka, unable to find any logic in it.

While you are rewatching it, focus on Chandra's face as he says mujhse saha nahin jata! It is absolutely marvellous, the way in which he combines helplessness, chagrin and a kind of exasperation with himself in that very brief shot.

Sandhya my pet,

I will respond to your two sets of comments tomorrow, but on seeing these shots, I was struck by one thing. Chandra is much handsomer than Jalal was , his facial expressions are far more varied and more subtle (not having a moustache helps!😉) and finally he and Nandini look very good as a pair now.

I am sure that Nandini would have slashed the wound to make it deeper and sucked out all the kalakoot vish on the spot, as soon as she realises that that it was that deadly poison. Otherwise, Chandra would never have survived the return trip to Pataliputra. This will be duly revealed by the palace vaid, and Nandini will be redeemed. She won't have to be a lep specialist.

Tomorrow's episode

Just hoping that we are not subjected to a bhaashan on the samaantha of stree ( thankfully not istree) and purush adhikaar a la the samaantha of mandir ke shank and masjid ke azaan and there is no declaration of the discovery of Chandra's hriday. Is Nandini a lep-ist as well???😲

FLAGGING A FEW POINTS ABOUT THIS WEEK'S TWO EPISODES

I plan to do the responses to all these comments tomorrow, but just a few points about the last two episodes, especially today's which I liked a lot.

One, Chandra and Nandini make a very handsome pair now.

Two, I liked the way in which, at several points during the final round of the exam and the award ceremony, Nandini turns back repeatedly towards Chandra seeking support, reassurance, and appreciation. Which he provides each time.

She does that just after Jayant's name is announced as the third selected candidate, and she moves to take her place between the other two, when Chandra lifts his hand in the abhaya mudra as if to bless her and reassure her. And again after she is declared the winner, exactly like a child coming first in class and looking to the parent for his reaction!

There was also a very subtle shift in Chandra's expression, I think it was when Jayant's name is announced as the third selectee (sic!), or when she is declared the winner, I am now not sure which, but it is one of the two. Watch it frame by frame from a recording if you can. His mouth relaxes very, very slightly in a trace of a smile, and the eyes reflect the same feeling. It was fascinating.

Three, the lovely little snippet where he offers her his hands as a stirrup to help her get on to the horse. It was a very unusual, yet not at all a lover-like gesture, more one of a friend to another. I loved the way in which she looks at his linked hands very seriously, then places her hand in his and guides his hand to the neck of the horse, so that he can help her get on to its back. Chandra is clearly taken aback, but his expression is hard to read. I never expected such an imaginative bit to pop up out of the blue!

Four , I loved Nandini's extended internal debate about the ethics of her supporting her pita maharaj's ambush scheme. It is not clouded by any romantic sentiment, but it is dispassionate, fair towards Chandra, and is finally decided on the basis of her personal code of honour as a yoddha. Incidentally, she fights well, with strong, horizontal slashing strokes.

As I have noted above in my response to Sandhya's photo collage about the Mohan episode, I am sure that Nandini would have cut the wound to make it deeper and sucked out all the kalakoot vish on the spot, as soon as she realises that that it was that deadly poison. Otherwise, Chandra would never have survived the return trip to Pataliputra. This will be duly revealed by the palace vaid, and Nandini will be redeemed. She won't have to be a lep specialist!😉

The real purpose of this sequence, apart from inaugurating a series of failed attempts by Malayaketu to assassinate Chandragupta, will be to make Nandini realise that regardless of her determination to secure pratishodh for the killings of her brothers, when push comes to shove, she does not really want Chandra to die.

A supplementary pay off will be that Chandra's near death encounter will bring the angry, sulking Chanakya back post haste to Pataliputra. He will be ready, given that she would have been shown to have saved Chandra's life, to forgive Nandini for the heinous transgression😉 of having forced him to go back on his MCP principles and acknowledge her vidya!😆

I loved it too. This was exactly what I hated Jodha for NOT posessing. The ability to see the good and the bad in a person and weighing them against each other and then deciding on her attitude and reaction. Nandini has more reason to hate Chandra. He killed her family in front of her eyes and yet is not blind to his attitude towards daas is or his support to women's education and equality. But Jodha hated Jalal just because he was a Mughal and a troop of Mughal army looted her Kali Mandir. His forgiving her for the narnaal disaster, handing over the Ratanpur Qila, support in conversion issue, NOTHING mattered.😡

Chandra more handsome than Jalal??😔 Well...may be...Chandra is fitter and trimmer while Jalal did look a stuffed teddy bear...but the dash and debonair...🤔...Jalal was 😎😆

Chandra with surma, itra and a full anthapur! 😲🤣
Chanakya will disown him.😆

Of course our Chandra is a perfect gentleman. He was educated by the best Acharya in the best schools, while poor Jalal learnt only what life taught him and grew up amongst the likes of BK and MA😭 and yet rose to heights.😃

OK, kiddo, I am retiring for the night, but one point.

Chandra is not just fitter and trimmer. It is also that the planes of his face, the bone structure under the skin, show up much more sharply. Look at your photo of Jalal grimacing at Jodha and you will understand what I mean. This is pure good looks, like a statue by Michaelangelo, where the underlying bone structure is what counts the most. In fact, Chandra has looked mostly like a piece of Greek statuary from the very beginning.

Yes, Jalal was mischievous and debonair and dashing, for about 80 episodes, after which he was simply bushwhacked by the script. Chandra can be very mischievous too - witness his handling of Nandini before and after the daasis troop up to thank him, and then after the DDLJ rip off. He was marvellous in both, especially in the latter, imitating a female lamenting Main kisi ko muh dikhane ke yogya nahin rahoonga!😆 Plus he is no slouch in sensual scenes, as we saw in Episode 56. Jalal never got a chance to show off his acting chops in such a wide range of situations.

Plus, the relationship between him and Nandini seems balanced in his favour as of now.So I am, of late, quite hopeful about this prem gatha!

One more point that I have added to my comments about the last 2 episodes. Chandra's near death encounter will bring the angry, sulking Chanakya back post haste to Pataliputra, and he will be ready, given that she would have been shown to have saved Chandra's life, to forgive Nandini for the heinous transgression😉 of having forced him to go back on his MCP principles and acknowledge her vidya
