Sure..

It's nothing but the " most dreaded weapon " used in the historicals these days - "Natkiye Rupanter" alias Dramatization, as historical records are not linear narratives.

So, creatives fill in the gaps with their " (highly) liberal(and wishful?) " thinking. :-P

Dear Abhay, thanks a zn buddy. What do I say? I am so excited about this thread. I was hoping you will get into Ashoka forum and especially was going to request you for a thread on Chanakya and here it is already!! I am a BIG fan of Chanakya and so am super excited and very thankful to you as well for sharing such valuable info about him.

And with your entry dear friend, I feel the show is complete, for there is no feeling of completeness on any historical without devouring Abhay's posts. As we know, we are all here for history, for the great personality and what else could be a better source than our Abhay to satisfy our greed to know more about this super personality.

And dear JA friends, just lovely to convene after so long. I am sure it's going to be good fun now with all of you around.

I hope to catch up with you all post Shivarathri. For that matter am yet to catch up with the serial, which also now needs to wait until mid next week for Shivarathri to be over.

Till then, enjoy Chanakya's Arthasastra at,http://www.sanskritebooks.org/2009/11/arthashastra-of-chanakya-english-translation/

Happy MahaShivarathri!

Kaana

Thank you. I'm glad you liked the post.

The post on page-1 where i compared Chanakya with Bismarck was not a historical remark in strict sense, but my view about Chanakya, as I'm very impressed by these two people and see a lot of similarities. :)

Yes, what you shared is absolutely correct, Chanakya is termed Indian Machiavelli ; our former PM J.L. Nehru himself mentioned this in his autobiography, as mentioned in a post on page-1 also by a fellow member. {Link} . Some Old historians
(before 1947) compared Chanakya with Bismarck . But, after independence, Sardar
Patel did exactly the same unification as done by Bismarck, and hence the epithet to him as you mentioned. :)

Yes of course. Bismarck's maneuvring against Austria and France (not to forget the curbing of Liberal power in the Confederation Diet and then introducing universal suffrage just before his war with Austria to win the Libs' support) is very Machiavellian, and therefore Chanakya-esque.

I love your posts.

Hahaha. Thanks. I was wracking my brains for all possible full-forms of this acronym, but failed miserably. The show is full of historical inaccuracies and exaggerations/fabrications. Guess the lack of concrete sources and a linear narrative (Arthasastra was more about the duties of an ideal Maurya king rather than a description of Ashokan statecraft/kingdom, Indica suffers from misconceptions and misinterpretations) has provided the makers immense liberty. šŸ˜†

Hi guys, I am back. Hope you all had a nice Shivaratri.

Shivani (you have a nice name) & Abhay, glad that you liked the link. Glad to be of some use to someone in someway. I hope you would have gone through Arthasastra. So, here is the deal guys - a quiz! I will select a topic from the text and you will give incidents from Chanakya's life in demonstration of it:) deal???? Let me be generous - I suppose any of my friends here can quiz you guys and maybe even respond also:)

Oh Yes.!
So nicely summed up. And along with that, not to forget the famous policy of entrapment, starting with the "Schleswig-Holstein Question" , where Bismarck used Denmark as a "pawn" and himself violated the London Agreement to "annex" these principalities, despite knowing that these were disputed between Denmark and the Duke of Augustenberg..!

I am glad to know you like my posts.
I've never read your posts before this meeting, perhaps i was active in "historical" shows' forums only, that's why. :)

Hi Kaana,
Would be a Nice Quiz and nice idea as well. But, Arthashashtra does not contains life history of Chanakya, it is mainly a book on statecraft and policies.. :)

Let's see how many friends participate in it.
I am ready, though may not be able to be present here regularly, as i am pretty much busy on other fronts as well.

Hope you are enjoying the show at present. :)

Had Stopped watching Ashoka. Thinking of starting again.

As per updates, the character of Chanakya has been developed quite nicely (?) He is shown to be strong. At least he is giving a tough stand to the machinations of Helen.

Only thing, which i am not able to understand is -> Why have they kept Bindusara unaware of Ashoka's REAL identity. But cutting a slack, as i have seen much much horrible treatment to Akbar and MP recently.

After Nur & Mir Khorasan i am not able to digest another 4th Queen. I have not read of any such "Good-goody" queen of Bindusara except Dharma.!

All the historicals are becoming NR's only. They can be enjoyed by keeping ourselves insulated from the "REAL" historical character, learnt this now.!

😲yes, the show seems to be 50-60 per cent fictional. though the casts are doing well. and about chanakya[ manoj joshi], he has a very good diction.😊
