Kajol is once again at the centre of social media scrutiny, this time for her response to a language-related question during a public appearance. The actress was attending the Maharashtra State Film Awards 2025 in Mumbai on August 5, accompanied by her mother and veteran actress Tanuja.
While engaging with the media, Kajol responded to most questions in Marathi and English. However, when one reporter asked her to repeat her comments in Hindi, Kajol’s reaction took many by surprise. Visibly annoyed, she replied sharply, “Abhi main Hindi mein bolu? Jisko samajhna hai woh samajh lenge.”

A section of netizens felt her tone was dismissive and inappropriate, especially considering the Hindi-speaking audience that follows her work. Many social media users have criticised her for what they see as a lack of courtesy towards journalists and a disregard for Hindi, the language of her core fan base.
Despite the growing backlash, Kajol has not addressed the controversy publicly. The full context of the interaction remains unclear, as it’s not known if she said anything before or after the viral moment that could explain her reaction.
At the same event, Kajol was honoured with the prestigious Raj Kapoor Award for her contribution to Indian cinema. She reportedly delivered her acceptance speech in Marathi. Actor Anupam Kher and several other prominent personalities from the industry were also present at the function.
Later that evening, Kajol shared a video from the event on her Instagram. In the caption, she reflected on walking the same stage where her mother once stood, writing, “Walking the same stage my mother once did, and on my birthday, no less… feels like the universe reminding me where I come from… and who I carry with me always.”
On the work front, Kajol was recently seen in Sarzameen, which released on an OTT platform. The film also featured Prithviraj Sukumaran and Ibrahim Ali Khan in key roles.
