the article whinges about why Gadar wasn’t seen in the same regard as dch and Lagaan and was ignored …
it’s like no one gives a crap abt what the article says and instead decided to chime in to take a dump on “European” cinema and people who like it 😂

And DCH did have a massive cultural impact which is why there have been so many buddy movies since then with filmmakers claiming they were inspired by it ….but sure , dismissing European cinema is perfectly okay…bas Gadar ko kuch mat bolo 😇

…if this is ur example of a good post 😂, lord have mercy

No thanks

Let me rephrase it for you. If you want a discussion you need to check your tone. Your opening post was condescending towards the people who liked Gadar. Therefore literally everyone on this thread dismissed it off. You didn’t keep it to just the movie but extended it to those who liked it also. And then you are ticked off that people didn’t like your post. Just admit it that you have spoken out of your turn and move on.

Yeah, that was definitely a bad post which made you put through so much frustration. May be next time you will think twice before judging people who watch the movies that you cannot relate to.

And just to reiterate, yes left to ‘those people’ cinema will die. It died in Europe and it is almost dying in the Hindi belt.

Bombay Velvet and Mohendjaro (Ashtoush film) single handedly killed Fox and Disneys interest in making Bollywood films 😆

I love "Buddy" movies. Can you name some? Unless you mean ZNMD which released some 15 years later.

The article is merely stating that DCH wasn't even a big grosser & it has a "perception" of being on the same level as Gadar. Keyword is perception. It hasn't said anything about it having a "Cultural impact". It's implying that Bollywood film-makers are so disconnected from the movie-going audience but they can't afford to anymore.

All types of cinema should be celebrated. But as far as the business of cinema is concerned, Bollywood has to go back to its roots with Large scale Desi actioners. The proverbial "Hero" saving the day. If they want people to return back to the theatres.

Yeh I wouldn’t call 3 people “literally everyone”..save the exaggeration and patting urself on the back there…no one’s looking for validation from u guys …it’s a discussion forum and we are discussing films …simple

harminder from boi condescendingly discredited those european films and his heading was that Gadar 1 was “ ignored “ …it can’t be the biggest box office hit and be ignored …if people didn’t talk abt after it’s release and run as much in terms of references , filmmakers appreciating it and listing it as an all time fav, it winning numerous awards or getting international recognition etc, there are reasons for that which Ive stated …

U can chose to not believe them….end of story

Sadly, Disney didn’t even consider Singh Saab the great as a candidate to invest in

Oh I see...so they got inspired from DCH 20 years after it came out. Wish they had seen it earlier. And if every film based on friendship is inspired by DCH...then every film with any cross border theme is based on Gadar. Veer Zaara, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Deewar, Pinar etc etc. And Shershaah was clearly inspired by Border 😆

Also does this mean that Lagaan didn't have a cultural impact? Because nobody tried making anything like Lagaan again.

Gadar won numerous awards....not that it matters. It's the same 20 people patting each other on the back & getting "inspired" from each other. It's a joke.

DCH did absolutely nothing except maybe a few idiots kept that chin strap for a month or two. As for Gadar, the proof is in the pudding...not just once but twice.

Anyways I'm exhausted...have a good night !

Your right sports films never took off in a big way.

But cop films did after Dabangg (just thought I throw that in there) 👌

Oh hello, U asked for names of buddy films …I gave them …u didn’t ask for examples of what impact Lagaan had…so I didn’t give them yet …

Most of the films I’ve listed have got filmmakers who’ve themselves claimed they were inspired by dch…or they adopted its syntax of naturalistic dialogues , less melodrama and dialogue bazi…simple..whether you like it or not is none of my concern …

And yea …Lagaans cultural impact is that it won 8 national awards, was nominated for the Oscar’s , not even counting the pan parag zee cine awards that don’t have much credibility anyways … soundtrack made it to the time magazines all time greatest soundtracks ……and no kjo didn’t buy the time magazine or the Oscar’s to make this happen…filmmakers from rakesh roshan to rajamouli have listed it as their fav film…and no kjo didn’t buy them…just because u chose to dismiss them as 4 people dosent make them irrelevant …

If u read up abt it , it also started several practices within the film industry that people adopted in terms of sound recording, budgeting and post production …

Both films forced people in the industry to rethink and change the way they think abt films and filmmaking….That is what breaking new ground is….so they will be held on high regard regardless of them making x crores less than Gadar …

Shit on them as much as u want 😄
