People didn’t forget about gadar because it was lumped with other not so great hits …they forgot abt it coz as far as filmmaking was concerned, it broke no new ground ..music , visuals, choreography, screenplay…nope…it had some emotional connect coz we were fresh out of a war (kargil) so the patriotic sentiment worked ….
Lagaan and dil chahta hai broke new ground, inspired many of the contemporary filmmakers, changed Indian cinema
Gadar made a lot of money …

Gadar 2 - Ek Katha Continues: Just For The Record
Gadar 2 - The Katha Continues is on a sensational box office run which will not end any time soon but there are voices within the industry and in the English media that the film is for the masses and for the B and C centres. Maybe in 2001 when Gadar Ek Prem Katha released and the industry went on a totally wrong path it was understandable though still defied logic.
There was limited transparency with the box office at that time and it was not about the numbers as no one gave out the collections so it becomes about what is said. Gadar Ek Prem Katha was called a HUGE HIT but so were films like Lagaan and Dil Chahta Hai and these got the 4/5 stars. Basically all put on the same pedastal in Mumbai and you had the talent of that time wanting to replicate the success of the 4/5 star films when in reality the success was mediocre in real terms and pretty non existent as far the audience was concerned.
The real genuine success in terms of public apprecittion Gadar - Ek Prem Katha was ignored maybe as a one off but this one off has ROARED again many years later and how. Today the industry is paying the price for that wrong path with lack of talent behind the camera in terms of direction and writing. The corporate culture was also starting at that time which meant the risk of getting it wrong theatrically started diminishing also.. Before the 2000's getting it wrong theatrically could kill you.
Today the industry is at a crossroads. Before this Independence Week and Gadar 2 it actually did not know where to look as everyone was giving cheap tickets, offers galore to try and get audiences in and even buying tickets themselves or through associates so to push the perception. The word ORGANIC came about as to which film has real collections and which film is aided by various means. Then suddenly the same film that came in 2001 comes again and does the same destruction at the box office as before and is loved and appreciated in the same way again.
Now surely you cannot just ignore again as this time it is in front you and not just the box office collections but the public appreciation can be seen across the country thanks to the digital revolution. This is not to say make 10-20 Gadar's that is not what its about. Its about the storytelling and essence of Hindi cinemas which Gadar 2 gives and the public loves. Gadar is not the only film which can be told with this essence and story telling there must be many more. The fate of the films proceeding Gadar 2 and the issues facing the film industry will make it harder for the success to go unnoticed this time.
You will have those people who talk cinema on those circle or round tables or whatever they are called where everyone is clueless and has no idea about real cinema. Even people from within the film industry who should know better become clueless on these tables. It is this lot which will call Gadar 2 a mass film and for B and C centres while they will call a bad film like Gully Boy and others like it a masterpiece. A bad film is not about HIT or FLOP as bad films can become HITS. A bad film is a film that does not resonate with the audience its as simple as that. The audience of HINDI cinema is in the heartland and if they dont like it then it actually means you have made a bad film. To find how much of you audience is in the heartland all you have to do is check the population of the Hindi speaking states.
Just for the record this so called MASS B and C centre Gadar 2 - The Katha Continues has totalled 85 crore nett at PVR / Inox and Cinepolis in just five days (we are not even including day six) while the so called urban classic (NOT) Gully Boy totalled 78.70 crore nett in the same cinemas for LIFETIME business. When its a film like Gadar 2 its a film for all and these assumptions thats its the mass and B and C centres are fake.
Now it does not need us to spell out what PVR Inox and Cinepolis means as the industry will at least know that much today that its definetely not B and C centre mass. There will still be doubters but then lets forget the chains and bring in actually the most high end cinemas (PVR Lower Parel, PVR Ambience, etc) in the country and compare and surely in these class upmarket cinemas the 5 star Gully Boy should be better than the B and C centre mass film Gadar 2. This we can save for another day.
Harminder dhoti khol raha hai taklay ki🥺🤣

A apart of the story is the stars and makers of those films aren’t really setting the world on fire anymore. While it seems the Gadar fire was blazing , is blazing and will continue it seems 🔥

Left to these people, they will make sure Hindi cinema will become dead and boring like the European cinema whose movies get a lot of awards and get played only in the film festivals around the world.
I was wondering why this great actress doesn't have any work after the superhit success of Gadar 2. She has faded away again. I am so confused....
