Refresh to now, and most of them look like skeletons. I'm not trying to body shame them, that's not the purpose of this post. But there does seem to be trend to be ultra-skinny.
Do you think it sends out wrong messages to the youth?
Nope.
Let's not kid ourselves, being "skinny" has been the trend for GENERATIONS. It's nothing new. Are we forgetting "cocaine chic" of the 90s? Whenever an actress put on weight, the media would make fun of them (see when Madhuri and Sridevi were pushing 30).
Right now, I don't see a craze for skinny as much as a craze for FITNESS. Never before in the history of time has fitness and health been more prominent.
Look at ALL the girlies on Instagram whether it's Katrina or Deepika or Alia or Kriti - they are all posting about health and fitness.
It is a good thing. Of course there are always going to be cases of eating disorders and body dysmorphia - and we need to work to challenge these issues. But from where I'm sitting, I see body positivity being the trend of today.
