I think that's the assumption he went for and decided to leave.

@bold: Those are just assumptions though. If you just go by his actions alone, there isn't much to extrapolate ... except that he went back to Italy, wrote a few letters to Nandini who lived in a FORTRESS full of plotting and scheming relatives and a Hitler father who imposed forced marriages on his daughters and nieces. Sameer didn't hear back and so, he tried to move on, cuz that's all we see of him in the movie. Nothing wrong with wanting to move on, that's the healthiest way to deal with a breakup, after all, but I also don't see any reason to pick him over Vanraj .. especially after Vanraj turned out to be a pretty sorted guy.

People change over time and that wild goose chase in Europe takes a while, you can almost look at it as a "get-to-know-each-other" trip for the two, except they're on a mission. They get to know each other with every obstacle on the way and establish a relationship, little by little. By the time she's at the cathedral to go back to Sameer, she has already spent more time with Vanraj than she did with Sameer! That can do anyone's head in... and she was married to the guy. She already has two men in her life who love her and who SHE also loves at that point. The choice was hers and she picks Vanraj... nothing wrong with that. I would have felt bad for Vanraj if she had gone back to Sameer too. There is always a loser in a love triangle and Saamer took that axe. No big deal in hindsight cuz he was anyway moving on in Italy if it wasn't for Nandini's insistence to chase him there.

I might be overly critical about people who claim to love me but don't show the love with their actions too. Sameer's love, esp. after Tadap Tadap, wouldn't fly with me.

😆 I remember him there. There was something unsettling about his eyes there even when he couldn't move ... but he turned out to be a surprisingly pleasant character.

I never said those are the reasons why I would pick Sameer over Vanraj. I just gave a counter for those who assumed Sameer didn't do anything from his end and just left the country, which wasn't the case. He tried to get in touch with her through the letters. He waited as long as he can, but when he didn't get any reply from her, he assumed she won't go against her father.

Otherwise personally I would have picked Vanraj too 😂 Sameer to me was an infatuation while Vanraj was love.

But those letters were hidden by the servant as Nandini was on verge of marrying someone else. Because he didn't get any response to his letters, he waited and left the country.

So he wasn't stupid or idiotic. He fulfilled his promise to her dad and also fulfilled his promise to Nandini by waiting for her right after he was ousted and even after leaving India.

No He wss stupid because he expected that the servant would side with him instead of thr fsmily he had served for years.. he was stupid to believe that the family who wss ready to send one of their daughters to an abusive husband wouldn't stop Nandini from replying to letters.. what good will his waiting do to Nandini if she is married off to an abuser like her cousin? He was stupid to have not considered that possibility.. andore than anything, he was stupid to give him a human being with feelings as a Guru dakshna

The husband has no fault in it but he also made no attempts to get to know her or to find out if there was anyone in her life before asking for her hand in marriage from her parents, who said yes on her behalf. He was too besotted by her beauty.

By the time he discovers the truth, he is already in the eye of the storm. The problem is that Nandini couldn't just "do whatever she wanted." If she could, she would have never lost Sameer and that forced marriage wouldn't have taken place at all. The only reason she could go on that Euro trip is cuz Vanraj took that initiative for her and was by her side the whole time. No one in her family had her back.

So... technically, she didn't drag him. He dragged himself along that ride cuz he felt awful for her. He must have held himself responsible for it cuz he was the only person who had the "power" to make decisions in that scenario. And he wanted to remedy the situation for her.... at his own expense.

I will cry if one more time I hear someone calling their love ‘infatuation’. It is not. It is called first and innocent love which never got a chance to develop into anything else. *wiping away tears*

Her father was stupid too. Why was he so completely against Sameer? He was a decent guy and had a great life in Italy. What was he thinking putting forth that guru dakshina trade at all?

It did put Sameer in a bind of sorts cuz Guru Dakshina is something a student owes their teacher for all the training they provide. There is a huge importance given to Guru-Disciple relationship too. Guru Dakshina shouldn't be as big as a human being but a lot of people pick their faith over their love when they have to pick between the two, right? Sameer's life centered around music, it was almost like a religion for him, he had a career in music and he flew there all the way from Italy to learn music from "the best of the best." So, one can argue that he picked his music and the Guru-Disciple relationship over his love, which is a sacrifice in a way.

Him going completely silent would have made sense in that aspect cuz her father asks him to bow out of their lives forever. But then he sends letters to her.😆 And doesn't do much to know Nandini's whereabouts.

I agree. It was love that didn't get a fair chance. :(

And who are we kidding here? He was basically given a deal that he couldn’t say no to. I mean if he chose Nandini over paying off the Guru Dakshnina tab toh he would be for sure giving Nandini’s dad a good reason to throw him out and Nandini also wouldn’t have had anything to say. Sameer bechara was simply stuck between a rock and a hard place! :(

Okay, I confess that I have switched sides about ten times from yesterday to now .... at least in my head.😆 But I eventually always end up justifying her picking Vanraj cuz that movie traumatized me and I MUST find some solace in that. 😆
