What if you were in place of Nandini?

HDDCS is a movie discussed umpteen times on this forum, and it always divides people into two groups. One whining on why Nandini didn't choose Sameer, and other one completely being okay with her choosing Vanraj.

But what if you were in place of Nandini? What if you were in love with a guy, but your parents were against that love. Your boyfriend didn't really fight with your parents for your love, and your parents were cruel enough to get you married with an unknown guy.

Now that unknown guy is your husband and he gets to know about your ex, with whom you're still in love. He allows you to leave him but he's clearly not happy about it since he also loves you. If you leave your husband, he would suffer humiliation from his family and society but he's ready to bear all that for your happiness. Now what would you do?

Whom would you choose? Your ex or your husband?

Although ideally, one would say you should stay with your Husband. But I would after this want to be on my own. No boyfriend, no husband.

There was enough emotional trauma endured by Nandini, where the love of her life did not fight enough for her and left for Italy, leaving it for her to scale the distance to come to him. On the other hand, having a Father that would force you into marrying someone you did not really love.

Marriage is no joke. You're required to become one with your Husband physically / sexually, bear his children, take care of your family and your in-laws. It's a HUGE lifelong commitment and to do it for someone, you don't have feelings for is difficult.

Had Nandini been open to getting married through an arranged marriage set up all the time, then that's a different thing. But over here? it changed when she met Sameer and her mind got conditioned to wanting to be with a person, she had feelings for. (and that was Sameer for the longest time)

So yes, if I were her.. I would choose to be on my own, clear my mind, build a life on my own, get financially independent through some talent I had (even if it were a domestic talent like cooking / knitting etc). And then if I fall in love with someone else, I'd probably give it a shot.

Ideally I would’ve probably foresaw the issue my family was going to have with Sameer and if I truly couldn’t live without him just run away with him early on. Like even before they caught together. While it’s definitely not admirable but Nandini was never admirable character 😆 That’s really the only real hope the Sameer/Nandini ship had. I mean at the end I was like wait she went thru this European journey and just stayed with Vanraj anyway. Wasting everyone’s time and resources 🤦‍♀️ Yes i was 8 and I felt this. But yes if Nandini wanted Sameer she probably should’ve run with him when dad threw him out if the house. Or ideally even before that. Instead of tracking him down some years later and doing the bizarre shit she did 😆

I can never be in Nandini's place. smiley36 I will not even fall in love or give a chance without even knowing if that person is meant or not meant for me. And no one, I mean no one, not even your parents can know who is best for you and who isnt, because they cant really see and predict the future. I have my own way of finding out and explaining the right way for them to go about it as well.

I would just dump both of them and send my application for the Miss World pageant and lead the life Aishwarya is doing now.

Don't be too sure though. You can't control everything and love has a way of sneaking up on you in surprising ways.

Besides, this question is hypothetical. If you were already in that fix Nandini was in ... torn between her husband and her lover, how would you approach it?

My goodness I do not like this movie. So mind numbingly boring.

Anyways, I am not much of a romantic but I would have picked Sameer. I wouldn't have been able to get over the forced aspect of the marriage with Vanraj. I would see Vanraj as shallow since he fell in love at first sight upon watching a dance. He was a good man but not the right man. Compatibility is very important and Vanraj was so depressing! Being with Vanraj is getting stuck in a routine where each day is exactly the same as the next. Couldn't be me.

if you cant control everything, then you have no choice to either accept your fate or if you dont want to accept it, then divorce and then go to the lover, husband has no fault in this, so dont drag him, divorce him and then do whatever you want.

If I were Nandini I would have chosen to reconcile with Sameer after meeting with him in Italy. Their relationship deserved a chance that they never got.
