Absolutely agree, failing to see the insult here. It's called SHOW business- the clue is in the name- if you're good looking and have charisma it is an undoubted advantage and it works wonders for your career since it IS a visual medium.

Does that mean that Ash and DP didnt work hard or go up against odds? of course they did and have succeeded than many other actresses or insiders who were just "another pretty face". I saw this interview and I dont think Zoya said this is an insulting way either. She was making a very specific point.

I remember the first time OSO came out and when Ash made her debut too- audiences were instantly charmed. My mother tells me Hema Malini did have a similar welcome because of her extreme good looks.

Very few- not even a stellar performer like Vidya- have had that kind of instant welcome and craze amongst the audiences even though Vidya is such a talent and Parineeta was a success.

Quite obviously then it's down to who has the greater looks and charisma.

Nah I do feel she was definitely throwing a backhanded compliment/lowkey insult at Deepika and Aish, and frankly it was so unnecessary...

But yeah I agree 100%, looks do make a difference, but it’s not at all the same as nepotism! Looks generate public interest (like Hema, Aish, Deepika,) whereas nepo connections only generate interest from certain producers who are friends with the nepos’ parents 😒

Also funny how she says Aishwarya is beautiful but talentless but casts Katrina who legit fits that description (very good looking but average actress at her very best!)

And Aish is a self made woman while Kat not only couldn’t act AT ALL in her early days but relied heavily on Salman and then later Ranbir to get her chances...

Bitter truth is Bollywood has always given priority to pretty face or nepotism over real talent

Zoya better not get me started on her below average movie gully boy that won so many awards for God knows what 😆

Audience need something to hang on to right. Give them great looks and dance or give them enthralling performances. On some rare cases you get both.

Vidya and Kangana are not great dancers but look at some of their author backed roles which are big hits.

I will judge Katrina when she is offered a Queen or Fashion or Parineeta movie and she fails to deliver. I did not see that happening.

Katrina is doing a good job wrt roles she does. She isnt offered or aspiring to do 'Mughal e azam' . Just saying...

Just when I thought I was done supporting the anti nepo gang, some entitled nepo brat comes out with a ludicrous statement 😆.

Dear Zoya,

You're actually proving the exact opposite of what you're trying to claim. Aish and DP had something to offer the audience. Yes, looks and not talent, but they worked hard to improve skills. But they did have looks to begin with.

A lot of nepo kids (not all) OTOH, have neither looks nor talent and get movies handed to them in spite. Then, they get lauded as Indian Meryl Streeps and consider showing up for a shoot as hard work.

Where nepotism helps the audience is the money. Unknown names mean smaller budget. Nepo names mean high budget projects which eventually help outsiders if a mix and match approach is followed. If the nepo kid is also more than average talented (or a looker or both), all the better. Plus, it keeps more support personnel in jobs.

Once again, don't you people have PR agents who can tell you how to justify your existence while not pissing off the audience?

Some free advice: acknowledge privilege, also acknowledge you don't have to and will not decline opportunities just because of privilege, detail benefits of nepotism and also of bringing in outsiders. Finally, make a statement about trying to bring in outsiders in your projects.

I am going to take this opportunity to again remind people that Zoya Akthar is a talentless hack who lifts basic premises from movies of better directors, fits them into a Dil Chahta Hai mood board and dull colour palettes and wouldn't nearly be as famous if it wasn't for her father and brother. 😎

Pretty people will always have pretty privilege in life lol but I don't think comparing nepotism with pretty privilege is right because they're on different levels. When it comes to people's looks, whether they're pretty or ugly, it's a genetic thing which they can't help (unless they do surgery) and their advantage or disadvantage derives from that.

Whereas, with nepotism it's all about connections and it's more sinister than pretty privilege. Powerful and rich people are more likely to have better connections and networking opportunities, so nepotism always skews the field and makes it even more unfair (i say even more because i'm aware almost everything in life isn't fair to begin with).

The sheer fact that Zoya gets to direct a big budget film as a newcomer is what is nepotism. No outsider director ever got anything above a second AD at start. That's abuse of power, nepotism.

Goodness are they that dumb or sheer ignorance that drives them, no idea
