If these insiders with access to so many resources put half the work in improving their craft, than they do in defending nepotism, the discussion would end itself.

why would they bother? they're not in the industry for the love of the craft..they're here because in any other field they'll have to put in some effort to get a job..

also they don't have any incentive to perform better because their bad to mediocre performances are lauded by industry veterans and critics who are in their payroll..and defended by self proclaimed "progressive" fans who play all sorts of mental gymnastics to justify nepotism...

1) They don't have to audition. They don't even have to look extraordinary or know the basics as long as they come with the right last name.

2) They learn on the job and are hand held throughout it while being pampered by the entire movie set. (Cue Alia, Ananya, etc). Meanwhile women like Tanushree, Kangana, etc. are subjected to bullying and harassment by pot-bellied hungry perverts during their early days.

2) They don't have to think about the money even if their movies flop. It's just a way for them to be popular and richer than they already are, not exactly their sole means of making a livelihood.

3) They don't have to wait for their movies to release to be popular and noticed. They come with an aggressive PR machine too.

4) They already know new projects are being readied for them as soon as their first movie is out. A newcomer from outside would be busy hustling and giving auditions left and right to score the next big project.

This is just a shortlist. The audacity of some people claiming that it's a level playing field is what got to me in this thread. It's common knowledge that nepo products don't even do a fraction of the work outsiders do. The constant denial and the lack of accountability showcased by nepo products truly extend down to their fanatics too.

they KNOW its not a level playing field..but right now the debate is so polarised that they feel they have to take a stance depending on who is on the other side (also applies to every single Bollywood related issue these days) .. and the imminent arrival of their top tier star kid(s) means they have to aggressively defend the practice of nepotism...

As for Oscar entries- we've also had mediocre or super commercial films like Barfi, Rang De Basanti and even Eklavya (!!!) go in as official submissions. Big deal. We need to make better films as a whole yes, but GB was not our worst. Not even close.

Paheli was Oscar selection one year 😆😆

GB is miles better than most films

The acceptance of mediocrity will lead to reduced profits cuz they don’t take risks and rely on tried and tested formulas, or god forbid BIOPICSSS, than innovation. You can’t innovate if you don’t have ideas, and talent to execute. Zoya defending nepotism, ergo her stance and industry is so embarrassing given the state of BW. It’s practically in the shitter. EvenTelugu industry with rampant nepotism gave us Bahubali. These BW folks ain’t shit. For all their talk, pride in their privilege, with their infinite money( and resources) what are they giving us? Khali Peeli? Sadak2? 8 mile inspired films?

BW is way behind in story telling, style, ideas, cuz they don’t innovate and like you said don’t look for any incentive to improve performance, rather pay people to sing their praises for absolutely mediocre performances. People are tuning off and turning to films in other languages ( thanks to subtitles) for entertainment.
