Let’s segregate the issues here.
1st Issue: Fraud: She has Asthama and still smoking
Cigarette smoke can trigger asthma symptoms. Despite this, about 21% of people with asthma smoke, even though cigarette smoke is known to trigger asthma attacks. The prevalence of smoking in people with asthma is similar to, or even higher than the general community, being ~19% to 25% for European and Northern American countries.
2nd Issue: Hypocrisy
Celebrity advertising is very common. It is used for cashing on celebrity stardom. But what also very common is celebrity hypocrisy. Leonardo DiCaprio a passionate environmentalist, travels everywhere by private jet. Many such examples out there.
I agree she made a mistake when she used crackers at her marriage...
But the campaign in itself was not wrong. It was a harmless advertisement for society benefit.
3rd issue: Attacking Hindu Religion
She didn’t say ban celebrating Hindu Religion, Diwali. She just advertised don’t use crackers. Nothing wrong here in my opinion.
Aye simple thing is issue is hypocrisy.
She has asthma and smokes? Uski life, uski marzi. Peeke mare, ya Nick ka chota nunu dekh k shock Mai mare, mujhe Kiya. But jab pehle bashan de, aur bad mai khud hi Chaman Giri kare toh log uski kuch bole hi na??
Aur Rahi baat attacking Hindu religion, they are wittingly or unwittingly claiming that it is only during Diwali, the crackers are an issue, jab ki apni shaadi mai, new year celebrations mai, iska kuch harm nahi hai. And it's not like during New Year time, crackers aren't burned in ample, ush time pe toh safe New Year trend nahi hota. Safe weddings ka bhi trend nahi hota. And please don't try to make it like I should appreciate Priyanka for having a multi cultural wedding, to show she doesn't hate Hindus and all. I don't think she or most of the celebs who tweet about these things, hate Hinduism, they are just falling in the trap of being made one. It isn't about them hating or not, it is about them falling in these campaigns foolishly for trending or for money.
The need to show that Hindu festivals or anything Hindu related is devil has been rampant in India in last few years or more, because a large section of Indians are associating Hinduism with anything BJP. People have even started attacking Hinduism, because they think it means attacking BJP. And any celeb who without thinking puts their hands, is falling in the trap.
Safe Diwali is a good campaign and I also don't have any issue with it, and most people don't either if it wasn't for these people and campaign ads demonizing the people who play with it. And here, the word people is generalized, and not specific to Priyanka.
