Also, it happens a lot of times that people decide one day before which movie to watch and then choose out of the ones that r showing near them.

I haven't said that there needs to be any charity or that they should appreciate the artistic value of the movie. I think the makers should have pushed for more screens because what do you expect to get out of 700 screens anyway? And again, it's the sort of movie that gow or crime movies generally are. The kind of movie that you're talingt about was probably October. And that must've been released on many more screen than just 700. What was October's collection again?

I think the screen allotment was fine. They allot screens as per their target audience. So they know which areas to target and have more shows in those regions and less in other regions where audience may not show up. It will be rare cases where someone wants to watch the movie and not find a theatre. But then again theatres can't run shows for few individuals. Most of the time such shows are cancelled and ticket price is refunded. Had the movie done well on it first day with good WOM the screen counts would have increased automatically as per the demand. Thats not an issue. But the wom never picked up.

The problem wasn't less screen counts. Its more to do with the fact that these people didn't promote the movie at all. There was no buzz for the movie. Barely anybody knew about its existence. Even for good wom one needs to find the first set of audience who will watch and spread the wom for them. They didn't even targetted those audience. The star cast too failed to bring in any audience. So on what basis would they give them more screens when distributors have no guarantee that people will watch this movie.

Both of these movies have more mainstream appeal points than what was shown in Sonchirya build up. Nonetheless, results are there for ya.

You are trying to create an audience that doesn't exist. Economics 101. You can have as much SUPPLY as you want but if there's no DEMAND for it then you are gonna make a terrible businessman.

Again, it's a business paradigm. The producers can push for more screens all they want. The local distributors and exhibitors know that audiences will not come to theatres for this movie based on track record. They have far more profitable alternatives running concurrently right now.

Also, a Varun Dhawan starrer will always have more cache than a Sushant Singh Rajput starrer. He's a far bigger star and puts significantly more butts on theater seats. Of course, he will get more screens given his track record.

Truth be told these niche films always struggle for an audience ...out of the blue one Andhadhun working proves nothing and that too was a thriller ...
Varun has the box office pull and was coming off two big hits last year but still with excellent reviews dragged the film to a respectable total atleast ...Sonchiriya had nothing going in its favour with even lesser commercial appeal and then the language ...
It was shocking to see some high end plexes in my city not have shows only on Friday 😕 distribution also they screwed up...I mean why flex muscles...just take the shows they are giving you ...why demand for more...
Ronnie thought he has become a big shot after Uri...lol...upar se Luka Chuppi was being distributed by Anil Thadani who has immense clout.

THE REVIEWS ARE AMAZING for this film, but , wheres the item songs, the skimpily clad heroines, some mr.money bags pushing this film? none...
should go for the Oscars, it has the potential to be in the top 5... but , it would probably be manikarnika that goes for obvious reasons...

Why do you think manikarnika will go to oscars?

No promotion, didn't even hear about it until I saw FC folks praising it. Just by the looks of it , it didn't look like something I would go to watch in theater so I would say many people might have felt the same. Now that everyone is saying it is amazing, I might reconsider it but you know what I mean.
