Total Dhamaal was mocked

Until that stops it'll never stop

I have heard it's pretty good.
But they hardly promoted it.
No songs Bo buzz.
So not surprised.

You could release it on 30000000 screens. Won't make any more than what it is. People weren't intrigued to see this movie. This is what you called a niche movie in today's time. The face value of star cast doesn't put butts on seats too.

Whether it's good or not? It's entirely subjective. I bet 99% people think this movie ain't worth their money in theater.

The number of screens does make a difference. If you want to watch a movie but it's not releasing anywhere near you, that's a big deterrent. Also, I think the movie hasn't been promoted well either. Not saying it could be a 100 cr thing but the collections it's got are dismal. It deserves better than that.

problem is India doesn't even have enough cinemas, it is around 8000-8500 now, with Hindi movies having only 5000 or even less.

But the distributors don't want to invest on movies which don't give them good returns in first week, as their share decreases by every week.

I know what you are trying to say but again the amount of screens is not the issue here. This type of movie in today's time has barely any audience theatrically. There are other elements working here too: severe lack of buzz, the face value of star cast. But the people who wanted to watch this movie, they did. For others, they weren't simply intrigued at all as there were better alternatives.

Moreover, it is a business they are running there. As an exhibitor and distributor, you wanna release movies in your local theatres that would be deemed at least profitable. It's not a charity show to "appreciate" artistic value. There's a different medium for that. This sort of movie was always meant to be on streaming platforms.
