Yes but this movie never got a chance. It was dead on arrival and wom got affected by that horrible dubbed version. They should have released it at some OTT platform.

Yeah, that's what it was. That's what worked against this movie and stopped the general public from coming 😆

well it was released against a rom com, while three successful movies are still running in the theaters.
This movie has no mass connection, like if I was a theater owner, I will rather show Luka Chuppi, and this isn't like I have anything against this movie, I will probably like this one more than Luka Chuppi, but business point of view this one isn't gonna make me money.

BOI got it bang on ----
Sonchiriya is a disaster with collections of 3.50 crore nett over the first weekend. There was no growth on Saturday when this film is for the high end multiplexes which collect best on Saturday. There are reports that the artists are not happy with the size of the release but actually the release is far too big for this type of film. It should actually just release on 200 odd multiplexes. When a film practically has no audience then more screens will make no difference. Collections come with footfalls not extra screens.

Yeah but even so. 700 is a really low number. I didn't know a movie, even if off beat, with so many known names would get such a low number of screens. I don't know the stats of many movies but mostly the ones I have read here have more than 1500 screens.

I know what you are trying to say but again the amount of screens is not the issue here. This type of movie in today's time has barely any audience theatrically. There are other elements working here too: severe lack of buzz, the face value of star cast. But the people who wanted to watch this movie, they did. For others, they weren't simply intrigued at all as there were better alternatives.

Moreover, it is a business they are running there. As an exhibitor and distributor, you wanna release movies in your local theatres that would be deemed at least profitable. It's not a charity show to "appreciate" artistic value. There's a different medium for that. This sort of movie was always meant to be on streaming platforms.

What type of movie do you think it is? It's a movie like gangs of wasseypur was. And that did well no? And no you haven't got my point still. Maybe people wanted to watch it but to wasn't showing near them. Also, it happens a lot of times that people decide one day before which movie to watch and then choose out of the ones that r showing near them.

I haven't said that there needs to be any charity or that they should appreciate the artistic value of the movie. I think the makers should have pushed for more screens because what do you expect to get out of 700 screens anyway? And again, it's the sort of movie that gow or crime movies generally are. The kind of movie that you're talingt about was probably October. And that must've been released on many more screen than just 700. What was October's collection again?

It was an extremely niche film ...no songs ... Bundelkhandi dialect...these kind of niche films need some breathing space ...you just cannot release it with happy rom coms and with another comedy franchise film running successfully already ...
October release date was so nice ...even if it would have been a single week free run..they should have gone for it..
And oh boy suddenly this dubbed version they started playing instead of the original...absolute mess ..
Even some trade people were writing how it dint get optimum shows in many high end plexes ...and these kinda films run at high end plexes only at best
