Sridevi had no childhood, was always under pressure to perform: Jaaved Jaaferi

Actor Jaaved Jaaferi has compared Sridevi with late popstar Michael Jackson, saying she was extremely introverted and lived her real life only while performing.

Sridevi died on Saturday in Dubai.

A day after filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma highlighted the struggles of Sridevi's initial career, actor Jaaved Jaaferi has now compared the Sadma star with late popstar Michael Jackson. Sridevi died due to drowning late Saturday in Dubai where she had gone to attend the wedding of her nephew Mohit Marwah.

The actor too to Twitter late Tuesday and wrote, "#Sridevi was so much like #MichaelJackson. No childhood. Pressure to perform since a child. Always competing with own self. Extremely quiet and introverted but exploded while performing, like that' was their life and not the one outside.

Earlier, in a long "love letter to Sridevi's fans, Ram Gopal Varma had written, "I know her life from the time I met her. I saw with my own eyes how her life was like a bird in the sky till her father's death and then became like a bird in a cage due to her overprotective mother. In those days actors used to be only paid in mostly black money and due to fear of tax raids her father used to trust friends and relatives and everyone of them betrayed her the moment her father died. Coupled with this the ignorant mother made many wrong investments in litigated properties and all those mistakes combined made her almost penny less by the time Boney came into her life.

Sadly I think this holds true for both of them. May they both rest in peace.

I think all these experts need to SHUT THEIR MOUTHS. Are they aware how insensitive they are sounding. Javed J, Ramu all of them are commenting on her life as if they are experts and were her BFFs. Yes Sri lost her childhood but in every interview of hers that I saw she always maintained that you need to lose something to gain something and she was grateful to her mom. We all need to stop projecting what we want and what we think is right on what Sridevi may have wanted or felt

Can these dumb celebs stop giving statements like this. Stop talking crap about Sridevis life... it doesn't matter if it's true or not. Her two daughters are most probably reading all this. They don't need this kind of mental torture while they are still grieving.

Yes thank you for saying this

I've been saying this too... People are desperate to portray her as a tragic figure

She was a child prodigy, not just a run of the mill childstar

There were not many opportunities, schools for her to learn (both acting and academics) then, not in India

And in her case I think education would've ruined her talent

She has always said her best roles were not in BW but in Southern films she did as a 13 to 18 yr old, that's where she learned acting

So we are saying that we are ok with a child prodigy in acting not receiving any schooling. We are ok with a 13 year old playing leading lady for that was her life. She did not play a sister role or a minor, it was lead actress, she played step mom of Rajnikanth in her very first movie 13 years old. She was 14 when she played a 16 year old in a movie called Pathinaruvayathinile. What were you doing at 13 ? Will you let your daughter live that life ?

She tried to sugar coat her life in her interviews for what can say, my mother was a greedy person who exploited me ?

How can you say @red with a straight face ?

But her actions spoke louder than words. If she thought this was a great life Jhanvi and Khushi would have been child stars. Instead she insisted on school for them. Even an acting education for Jhanvi in Lee Strasburg. It is absolutely true she learned acting from 13 to 18, but as a mother she obviously did not want that for her daughters.

Give her the credit she deserves for rising from a hard life, a life where she was deprived of a childhood. She is a survivor and is a strong person for learning multiple languages and reigning in multiple industries when she barely had a schooling.

You guys are projecting she had a happy life and childhood. Anyone with eyes can see she was exploited , her life story is she was exploited as a young child. She rose above that. Her death does not change that.

I am not saying I am ok with it, and I would never do that to my child, but I dont think anyone can claim with a 100% certainty that Sri was unhappy. The only ones who would know it would be Boney, her kids or siblings. These are speculations. So basically we are projecting.

Never said her life was a fairy tale, ideal, perfect or without any trials or tribulations...
Her life, talent, attitude, aptitude was different, unique

Okay gotta go now...
Continue the discussion later

Absolutely not these are not projections. it does not jive with reality. She is 13 years old not playing a child but an adult. She was not playing dolls or dress up. She is playing lead actress surrounded by men who are decades older. She is a child dressed up to look like a woman. You say she was not sexually exploited, no one made passes at her and she was cocooned ? Her mother could not have protected her 24/7. Abuse has happened before parents.

There are stories even now about the South industry that will curl your toes. This is the 70s. No ideas about consent or abuse. Still think she had a happy childhood and was not exploited ?. My heart has always bled for her because of that reason. I can and will never believe she was not exploited or abused. She was a child playing leading lady. Too many rumors I have heard to believe it was a safe environment. If you somehow can believe she escaped unscathed then I vehemently disagree. I cannot put my head under the sand.

I think I agree with Javed Jafferi.
I do agree enjoying a childhood is a luxury. Not many people have the luxury of being a carefree child. A lot of people have to grow up before their times and struggle to succeed. Sridevi became a legend and a superstar because she was a child prodigy. Perhaps her life may not have been as good without the celebrity opportunity.

Yet, losing your childhood to work is tragic, no matter how big of a celebrity you become.

Also, Sridevi was indeed a reticent star who did not enjoy basking in the limelight like other celebrities. While she was electric in her public presence, you can see it in many of her public interviews and appearances that she would rather get it over with. I can't fathom life as a star where everything you do is under scrutiny.
