South does have misogyny but that whole angle about her playing a mom to Rajnikanth, KB is known for his women centric roles even back in the days.. Why do some write it as if its a bad thing. Girls still do debut really early and play roles far older than themselves and with older costars. Example Lakhmi Menon. She is Jahnvi's age but debuted at 14. And with whatever interviews i saw, it seems like it was her mom's dream.

It also depends on how you handle that pressure and deal with people. Sridevi had a huge ambition if not, succeeding in Bollywood is no rare feat. And i wish people like J and R stop about these so called sob stories.

Apparently she was playing a 20 yr old not an older woman

A poor 20 yr old girl gets married to a much older rich man whose son happens to be Rajnikanth

Did i ever say her childhood was normal?

Im saying that Sridevi loved performing. And it came naturally to her. Tapping into her talent and nurturing it was a good move but i agree that she should have been out playing with kids her age too. There should have been a balance but she got famous way too fast.

And its a sob story for me cos her life is to be celebrated. Not pitied upon.

She wanted to live a dignified life without sharing these experiences. Then so let it be.

I absolutely do not pity her, in fact her life story is inspiring because she over came so much to get what she got. She was born in rural Tamil Nadu. Yesterday everyone from NYTimes to LA Times to US Today to NPR radio station in the USA had articles and programs on her. She was a polygot who did not have a formal education, she did not go to acting school but one of the finest actors. How is it not inspiring and something to be pitied. It shows you can rise above your circumstances with grit, determination Her life's choices as a kid may have been dictated by someone else but she can still make the best of it. But her childhood was lost, no way to dance around it or paint it in pretty pictures.

She did share experiences. she made excuses for lack of childhood. She never said she did not want to talk about it. One of the biggest things she said during Jhanvi's debut was her mother was always on the sidelines, but she would not be, not even if Jhanvi wanted it. If it was such a fond memory wouldn't she try to replicate it.

She knew 6 languages I know for sure, I think 7 but I am not sure which one. She did not have basic schooling. The scenes from English Vinglish might have been something she identified because she did struggle with Hindi and English.

She had a hard life which she overcame with success in multiple industries. She was a strong and brave woman and her real life is far more interesting than any Chandini or Naagin or Lamhe can ever be and to say she somehow had it easy is not true neither does it give credit to her for rising above it.

I didn't mention others who shared personal experiences. There are a lot of articles about her sad childhood. I agree with you and others on that. I don't think it's Javed Jaafery or RGV's place to talk about her personal life. In fact Boney & Sridevi even threatened to sue RGV in the past because of his lusty behavior. I find it absolutely shameful.

From an online article

Sridevi worked in times when it was common for actors to work three shifts a day: the more famous the star, the more sets she was on, playing two or three different characters in five or six different sets of costumes. She worked so much that she often played more than one character on the same set. Which Hindi movie star has essayed more double roles? She did Gurudev, Banjaran, Khuda Gawah, Lamhe, Chaalbaaz and Guru, the last two in the same year. She played her own daughter in the hallucinogenic Nigahen, a sequel to Nagina. She personified the divided self: both queen and chattel, terrorized and terrorizing, mute and hyper-loquacious.

Many years after its publication, I came across an undiscarded 1987 issue of Stardust. One of its stories was a narrative that was a monthly staple at the height of Sridevi's powers: the story about her unhappy life off screen. Dashed off with the level stare and matter-of-fact relish of the professional voyeur, it speculated about Sridevi's private life in what you sensed was oft-repeated detail.

The affairs with married co-stars were inevitably unhappy. Parental control of her life was harsh and exhaustive. The interests of a woman who had never had a formal education, never made a decision for herself, never done anything but act in the movies, were precisely nothing. When she wasn't working, Stardust said, she wandered aimlessly through her house clutching a large stuffed doll, in effect an effigy of herself.😭

RGV is making or going to make a biopic about her I am pretty sure. He has his own agenda. But people will talk about Sridevi's life. If, not when the #metoo movement reaches India one of the biggest lives that will be examined is Sridevi. There was an article in BBC about it which I vaguely paid attention to I am not entirely sure what it was about. But she was a child star, worked in 5 industries, made a debut as a teen, worked with costars decades older. How was she treated in the industry, did she face harassment, exploitation all that will be examined someday by someone. I expect books to be written about her.

Sridevi is like Marilyn Monroe. Years after her death she is fascinating. Sri's life was unique, her death was tragic, she was hugely popular. She was the first female Superstar of India. Examine her life and you can pretty much get a feel of what life was for as actress in a certain period of time in an industry. You cannot stop it. Better industry people talk about it and people who know about it than some journo digging dirt in some articles is my take.
