^Not even 13, she was just 11 when she played heroine in Anuragalu. Just watch her here. Ugh.

She was totally exploited by her own parents and that's saddening. In one of her interviews, she said she wanted to play with the kids in her neighbourhood, but her mom did not let her because she had an early morning shift and had to sleep. What is this if not child labour and exploitation?

I thought Moonru Mudichu in Tamil was her debut as an adult. Did not know this was her first movie.
Yes, it's child labor, exploitation. The stories around that time are horrible. I cannot imagine she escaped unscathed.

Okay gotta go now...
Continue the discussion later

Trials and tribulations are different from being a child being put in a potentially dangerous situation with a possibility of abuse because of a parent to earn a living. It would be negligence, exploitation, chid labor and all those concepts we want to avoid in our 'enlightened' age.

Yes Sri lost her childhood but in every interview of hers that I saw she always maintained that you need to lose something to gain something and she was grateful to her mom. We all need to stop projecting what we want and what we think is right on what Sridevi may have wanted or felt

You have said it very correctly, It is rather insensitive of him or anyone to comment now. Children with over ambitious parents or the ones with domestic issues are introvert..Sridevi may not have had a childhood but it is too late now, the person is gone least we can do is send her with dignity rather then accusing her family and psychoanalying them.

Yes, Sridevi said in her interview that she first became a heroine at the age of 10 1/2 or 11 yrs
She was so young, shes dressed in a sari here to look older but its clear that shes a child
That is certainly inappropriate child exploitation but I guess in those days there were no rules in South film industry and nobody got shocked that an 11 yr old was playing heroine's role

This movie Anuragalu seems to the Telegu version of Anuraag (1972) starring Moushumi Chatterjee as a blind girl with Vinod Mehra as her costar
This song above seems to be same as Neend Churaye Chain churaye song from the hindi movie Anurag

I've heard some HW actors and actors like Kamalhassan say that they can't believe they're getting paid for what they do

Bcz it doesn't feel one bit like work to them.

They love what they do, enjoy it so much, they can't believe they're getting paying for it

I believe that was the case with Sri too... She never put it exactly hat way, she was never eloquent or talked much offscreen... But said something like that and that's what I thought seeing her onscreen too, her early works in particular

I could be wrong...

I did say her case is unique and doesn't apply to all, not even all child stars or actors

I don't know why me and my daughter were dragged into this

Can't a point be made without making it personal?

NVM

When I said education wouldn't have helped her talent, I didn't mean basic schooling or the three Rs! I meant higher education or acting school esp acting school

She said she did try both school and acting for a while but sooner became busy and had to chose one

And if her parents had chosen the regular route instead of acting, sending to college and marrying her off, that would've been fine too...

Maybe she had a horrible childhood, abusive mother, suffered all kinds of abuse esp sexual and all thosee yrs she put on act (that would make her best and consistent actress offscreen)

Or may be not... She just died and people are saying these things like 100% facts and they're 100% certain they're right and others are wrong

I feel so bad for Sri. Her own parents exploited her so much that she lost her childhood. She had to slog day and night earn money for her parents. Later in life she lost all her earnings towards her parents n Sister. Her father had lent a lot of money to ppl but most of them cheated him especially his friends. At the time when she was struggling with financial crisis and the loss of parents death, Boney gave shelter to her.

Look at the bright side. Since she did not have a normal childhood, she made sure both Khushi and Jhanvi gets one. She ensured that they start working only after being an adult and that is what is happening now. She is starting with Dhadak at 20. I also remember reading an interview of Sri where she spoke about the reason why she dresses up so much at this age and that's because she couldn't do this during her childhood and that's why she is enjoying doing it now. She also took a break when she was was already at her peak to raise her children properly. I think she wanted to be a better parent and probably give her children what she didn't get as a child-a proper childhood. And that's the silver lining in the dark cloud.
