WOHOO! 👏 I remember with Bajirao the solid Weekday collections helped it sustain itself to make a huge profit i hope PV trends similarly (or better).

Say what you want to say about the final product's quality but SLB + Ranveer + Deepika have proven now three times to be one hell of a trio at the BO

Watched this movie over the long weekend. It should've been called 'Khilji', would've saved a everyone a lot of time, money, and trouble that 'Padmavati' caused 😆

From where I see it, this movie was Khilji's story. It was about his hunger for power, his questionable rules and ambiguous morals, and his sense of entitlement for everything exotic. Ranveer was unstoppable and it is evident that he has had a blast playing this character. It was also inevitable and poetic justice that despite everything, he didn't really 'win' in the end.

I thought Shahid was very good as well. He played the character with a lot of dignity and I really feel that he did more than what the script demanded him to do. It wasn't an author-backed role at all and yet, while Ratan Singh didn't shine as most secondary characters in SLB film have in the past, but he did manage to leave a mark and didn't blend into nothingness.

What I liked about Padmavati as a character was that she was often a voice of reason to Ratan Singh's misplaced self-righteousness. It's too bad she wasn't heard, it would've saved many lives. But I get it, everyone has certain principles they would never leave behind and the Rajputs in the film would rather die than let go of their morals. Fair enough even if I don't agree - I get where they were coming from.

I have never been impressed by Deepika as an actress but she really shone in the climax of this film. She looked ethereal and carried off the scene with a lot of poise and grace. For me, those 15 minutes are her best work as an actress. Also, I don't think jauhar was glorified at all. There was nothing celebratory in what they showed - it was tragic and that's it. It was choosing a dignified death over a dishonourable life for what it meant in that era. Aren't we constantly debating around euthanasia in today's context for the same reason?

In the end, Khilji's entitlement and Ratan's righteousness both lost. For me, the climax really worked as it created goosebumps and left a deep impact on me.

Overall, this has been SLB's best for me in the last decade but nowhere near his earlier works till Black. There is no depth in his storytelling and for those who are aware of all four versions of this poem would know that he has just mashed up the events as would best suit for dramatic effect. Most layers which I drew from the movie were because of the performances and because I already knew the tale before watching the film. Ranveer was author-backed but the others really rose above the script to put up the performance they did and that has impressed me.

Houston, Jan 29 (PTI) Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Padmaavat has been running to its full capacity in several theatres across the US in both standard format as well as IMAX 3D.

In Houston alone, it has been running housefull in all AMC theatre locations with 24 shows a day since its opening.

As per box office collections sources, the film has collected over USD 3,488,239 till Saturday. It has crossed all previous records for Bollywood movies by collecting USD 1,841,628 on January 27 in a single day across North America, racing past PK's USD 1,418,817.

"Padmaavat' has all the hallmarks of what might have been a universally celebrated Bollywood epic, a critically acclaimed director, A-list actors dressed in lavish finery, elaborate dance and action sequences, and a love story to tie it all together, said Anuva Kay, an avid bollywood fan, who watched first day first show with packed audience in Irving, Dallas.

Anuva, who was born in US, said, "I still don't understand why the movie was the subject of street protests in India were all about and why they delayed the movie for so long, she told PTI.

Another Bhansali fan called the film a work of art.

"Bhansali has paid such attention to details... The way Ranveer Singh's eyes are lit to convey evil... The peace and silence in Deepika's eyes. She is so beautiful and regal, said the fan.
