Thumb rule is to try to understand what other is saying or ask what he means to say or else the whole argument loses its potency
The KSG and RK comparison has nothing to do with the momentum of topics.. It is related to something else which if you had asked, I would have told but moving on

He had a very successful debut with QSQT
But then right after he chose some bad films
So the mass appeal he had got with QSQT could not accumulate
He was to some extent successful in the 90s
Later the change came from Lagaan / DCH
He took a long break and started doing less films
He began to choose excellent scripts
And now we see that he has come such a long way
He never had that crazy fan following as the other 2 Khans
But even neutrals watch his films now for the scripts he chooses

But why not? He is good looking "somewhat" Satisfactory performance, as per you amazing films and acting, then why not the crazy fan following?

On topic, Aamir lacked the macho image that was prevalent when he first entered movies. Nor was he fitting into romantic mold. He did make handful of good movies. But 90's was brutal time for actors with non macho image and every one was doing what they could to lay their hands on movies. When he had chance he would try to do something different. He does have very successful producer uncle.

For better or worse Mani Ratnam changed Bollywood scene. Content based movies gained momentum and like some one said multiplex were on rise. Aamir's Sarfarosh was game changer for him. He had learnt marketing skills, film making but Sarfarosh made plain demand for him to act and it was this movie that made him an actor to reckon with. It is impossible to talk about the feeling that passed the theater when DCP Rathod enters the police station. Aamir was DCP Rathod and not Aamir. He followed it with good movies like DCH, lagan, Rangeela, 1942 Love Story. There were mis-steps but they became few..

Now he seems to have gained knack to pick good script and add dash of marketing savvy. And he mixes and matches it with mindless Gajani and Dhooms. The upshot is he has got BO success but has ensured some if not all of his movie will stand test of time. Not a bad ideal to emulate for younger generation.😳

👏

You know, I think it was SLB who changed the scene in Bollywood. My fav Salman, SRK, Aamir films - from the 90s - are Khamoshi, Dil Se, and Sarfarosh. SLB had written a beautiful movie before Khamoshi and that was 1942. And, apart from Sarfarosh, the other three were flops. Yet, above all those blockbusters Salman and SRK had delivered, and big hits in the 90s, for me, Khamoshi and Dil Se stood out.

PS: Aamir was ACP Rathod in Sarfarosh. ⭐️

I have never seen Aamir have the kind of fandom that is based on personality like Shah and Bhai have. Didn't Aamir take a break due to personal reasons for a few years ? Not sure of the time line but it is evident there was a distinct change in his career trajectory where he became more serious and concentrated more on script.

I think Aamir Khan changed post Rangeela...he started doing less movies and then one movie at a time.

So this is what I had written, basically.

Even for Aamir, people still say that he has a weak screen presence and can easily be overshadowed by his peers. Or he is an actor more than a star. Reading similar stuff and keeping that as a basis, I think she will go like Aamir career wise and will own one extremely versatile and brilliant filmography.

has the filmography that would be remembered for like 100 years

This is not me though. 😆

As I read your post again, I don't have any real answer. Someone who grew up in the 90's era, watching them can answer it much better why he couldn't attract the mass attention that Salman and Shahrukh got. I liked him only after TZP.

I think had he played more roles like Rahul, Raj, Prem, Chulbul Pandey, Aman...he would have been enjoying the same crazy stardom too that SRK, Salman enjoy irrespective of how their movies perform. Audience start associating you with the characters you play and they cherish. ASR and Barun Sobti is perfect example😆

I think, he chose the path himself. Maybe being an actor and doing different and quality cinema gave him more pleasure than being a star. He shuns himself away from the eyes of people after his every release usually. While the other two, some way or other are always in the news.

I hardly see anyone fawning and drooling over him like it happens for SRK and Salman. Even though he has the most handsome face of all.😆

So I think, it's lot to do with his on screen persona too. He always tried to do different and now that hard work is paying off. People are like Aamir ki movie hai achhi hi hogi now that's quite huge more than having a crazy fandom after you.

People who is liked by majority, have few fans.
Where as srk and Salman who were pit against each other , benefited by the comparison. (gained all weather fan, more emotional investment)

Perhaps it just did not click for him and still does not click
Crazy fandom is something some of the stars earn
He did not but he compensates that by his script choice
He makes the neutral audience come to see his films
Crazy fan following though does not mean people will watch all the films
