At least Dutt wasn't a criminal or a gangster. RK, Hirani has confirmed there won't be any glorification and youngsters will get to learn something - not to do drugs or get oneself embroiled in criminal activity 😆

@ Sherlock: Rahul Dholakia is a liberal leftist, this was expected.

bajrangi aur dangal type ka body nahi hain iss murti ke pass. so Raees hi sahi😆

@bold: Industry make movies to make money, just for money. not for letting public know what the truth is. you are expecting too much😆

Gangstars characters are riveting as stories so they often get movies made for them..But our heros do not have enough courage to show a bad as bad as they fear backlash. They think their good will would get destroyed if they portray an out an out negative character as masses think the hero and the fictional gangster character are the same person..Hence bad guys are shown with a golden heart, their wrong deeds are justified as our HEROs cant do any wrong..
P.S This is a generic comment as I haven't seen Raees yet.

They for various obvious reasons avoided mentioning it being based on Abdul Latif's life and thus getting themselves that freedom to fictionalize it without being questioned!

Lol what's the big deal ? Everyone loves gangster movies. That's not glorification but picturization.
Mesrine, Narcos, Scarface, Chingu... and there is many others. It doesn't mean that the filmmaker wants the public to lead such a life ; it's just that gangsters are interesting people as most of the time crime doesn't pay.

Gangster movies are popular subjects- their rapid rise to power and eventual fall is fascinating to watch on screen. For cinematic reasons, their wealth, gang loyalty and hedonistic lifestyles are glorified to an extent. But when you start adding a Robin Hood persona to their character because hey under the crimes, they're doing good for the poor people! it's basically asking the audience to develop some sympathy and root for that person. It's especially sickening if the person was portrayed as a saintly saviour but he was out to kill a group based on communal reasons.

It is just so ironic to see SRK playing such a role cuz he basically rose to fame playing anti-heroes/negative characters(who weren't glorified) in the 90s'. So what was the issue here?😕

It could have been a great opp for him to win the audience back.

It's just a film, every gangster film gets glorified especially in the West, then they forget about it and move on. Not every movie has to have a moral compass
