I'm a massive Mohd Rafi fan and when I watched the film before I went cinema I did read the "hoopla" about the dialogue Alizeh says about Rafi Saab and to be honest with you, I don't think it's as bad as Sonu and a few Rafi fans are saying it.

Hey! :)

First of all, I wanna appreciate how you want to have a civil debate and not turn this issue into a breeding ground for WW 3.

Coming to the issue, I feel one major issue in our country is the glorification of public figures, especially celebrities to the point that they feel they can't be touched by common people. They start believing they are demigods.

See, it was just a small joke and was a different opinion. There might be many who don't like Mohammad Rafi's singing. Maybe they have bad taste according to you, but it doesn't take away their right to express their opinion. Celebs can take a stand on an issue they feel for, but we have the right to call it an overreaction if we feel so.

I feel people should not take themselves so seriously and should learn to laugh at themselves. In this case, we should take inspiration from other societies where 'legends' are not above a few laughs.

Its all based on convenience . If today some film maker mocks Yash Johar in any film KJO will go crazy crying over it.
Also KJO will never mock say someone like Raj Kapoor or Harivansh Rai Bachchan.
Rafi was a legend...why mock legends 🤔 And if its okay to mock legends then why were people so angry when Tamnay mocked Lata M? Twinkle Khanna was so offended with Nasiruddin's opinion on her father.
Ofcourse we live in a democratic society and hence Sonu has the right to support or say whatever he wants to.Or may be he can't coz he is not a superstar and not a sought after singer anymore.

Weren't KJo and co offended when Naseeruddin Shah said Rajesh Khanna was not a good actor?
It is ok to have an opinion but then they shouldn't complain when others criticise people they care about.

Because after a lot of controversy and promotion ( read more controversy) the movie is a HIT.
It made money for the stars involved.

SO their fans can say anything because to them its sour grapes syndrome.

had the movie flopped, these same people would have joined them together in protesting against the comment.

I believe in eating pizza everyday! If I take a stand for it, does that mean every single person has to follow suit? I thought we were part of a younger generation that is more mature; opinionated sure, but open-minded. The fact that people on the Internet, or otherwise cannot tolerate a difference of opinions makes me realize how wrong I am. Sonu Nigam's statement was absolute bull crap. So it's okay to mock Himesh Reshamiya's nasal tone, and Farhan Akhtar's deep voice on screen, but not someone else's? What, those aren't people with feelings? They aren't hard-working talented artists? HR may be the greatest singer ever for some person in some part of the world. What if he/she gets offended?

Gosh, people truly are offended by ANYTHING and everything nowadays. Even opposing opinions of fictional strangers on screen. It's ridiculous.

I love eating pizza everyday too, firstly.
Secondly, my point is NOT that every celeb has to take a stand, but how people conviniently say that *free ki publicity* mil rahi hai if they do...
And sorry but according to me, being open minded is not cracking jokes on legends, them being Rafi Sahab, Amitabh Bachchan or even Yash Chopra.
We can tolerate a difference in opinions, even in this post I haven't bashed anyone whose viewpoint differed from mine...
If we should not be intolerant then even filmmakers have a responsibility too.

TM,just relax! Only kjo fans,Ranbir fans,Aishwarya fans and Anushka fans seem to be offended with Sonu's statement for obvious reasons. They can't tolerate a single word against their favorite movie.

Tomorrow if some movie makes fun of their favorites then these same people will come forward and criticize that movie. At that time these same people will say,"how dare that movie make fun of my favorite? My favorite doesn't deserve to be made fun of blah blah blah"😆

So relax! This is what happens in this forum. 😆

I am having fun reading some of the comments here...people talk of intolerance and themselves are ready to stab me if I have a varied opinion.
I know this forum is crazy 😆

Okay first off, my post wasn't directed to you personally. I'm sorry if it felt so. You put across your point in a very civilized and gentle way, undoubtedly. My point was more of a general issue, something we come across on the internet, especially on IF, every single day. "You don't like XYZ? How dare you!"

To be honest, I'd still disagree. Hitler was a legend for some, a murderer for others. See any opinion is subjective at the end of the day. It's how you see it in your stance. Someone being popular is a fact. Someone being a great actor/singer/artist however, is totally the audience's prerogative. I didn't think Mr. Bachan was anything great until the past few years. My Dad could stop talking to me for days if I told him that though.

What I simply mean is, often we make issues out of stuff that doesn't need to be made so big. A mountain out of a molehill comes into mind. I think film-makers and actors are targeted more simply because of their mass appeal. If I'm a painter who paints someone a certain way, I would never be criticized. Why do the standards change when it comes to celebrities? He's a director telling a story - he could be pathetic for that matter - but it's still his story and his characters. Had the character done mud slinging and abused a singer, I would totally support Sonu Nigam's statement. This is just her thinking he sounds like he cries when he sings. Is it really that big of a deal? However then, it's his opinion and we come back to the fact that he has a right to say it aloud.

P.S. - *Highfive to pizza * That should be made law. 😆
