People put too much pride in their language which at the end of the day is just a means to communicate......smiley22

Will I love you sound sweeter in any particular language?? No it won't......so people should stop fighting over language and worry about the real issues.

As far as I know, Kannada is a Dravidian language (like Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil) and Hindi is an Indo-Aryan language. With time, there was a mutual 'borrowing' (Dravidian languages a lot of words from Indo-Aryan ones, Indo_Aryan ones structures from Dravidian ones). There are traces of Davidian in northern Indian states like Gujarat and Maharashtra and also in Pakistan.

The large looming controversy over the years have been the attemtps to force imposition of hindi language by BJP in South India.

I don't get it all these years under diff govt things were ok why this central govt keeps making attempts to impose hindi in South.

I am from Lucknow and my mother tongue is Hindi.....but I do not get it either......We have a binding language and that is English.......so there is no need for another language to be imposed on others.......make English compulsory everywhere.....because India has too many languages otherwise and we need one binding language to be functional....so English be it.......humari nahi hai toh kya...but instead of fighting over languages.....settle for English.... I will never understand the big deal with languages...smiley24

Not just BJP. It was going on from 1947 itself. My dad says he was taught in school that Hindi is the national language, despite it never being officially mentioned in the constitution. In fact most North Indian people are still under the misconception that Hindi is the only national language of India and shame those who don’t speak Hindi as people with no national pride.

The problem has always been there but with internet more people probably are aware of it now.

Constitution of India grants the right of free speech to its citizens, so anyone is allowed to make statements witin the limits of decency, even ones that reek of ignorance..

But in the countty that is divided into cast, creed, language, religion, and so on and so forth, the statement like the one made by KH is a touchy one.People even wage a mayhem over something as innocuous as some religious figure's cartoon. While one might excuse the ignorance or flaring statements by general public, the public figures, especially the politicians and celebrities need to think twice before they open their mouth...

I don't understand why people are so obsessed with their regional identities so muchsmiley6 Nobody is going to take away your property. These people really need to move out and travel out of their state & country and just stay in some developed foreign country for some time and learn how cosmo culture is. We have to accept the fact that our country is diverse and everyone can't learn all languages, a state is a part of a country. I am from Goa and we have a lot of tourists coming here, our local language is Konkani which is also a very old language. But we are not obsessed with it so much to expect outsiders to learn the same, we don't care. Lot of migrants come here to do labour work and all, we speak in hindi with them. What is important is that our work gets done.

Although I loathe what the about 200 years of British colonialism has done to India, I agree that one should not impose o n e regional Indian language but a comprehensive one which is - alas - English. In all global matters (business, Internet, international gatherings), English has become the language of communication.

I am happy to see that so many people are so emotional and attached to their language and take it personally. Language is a big deal IMO. No one should be trying to eradicate others’. People fought and died for it. I am also sad Bengalees have long forgotten the value and importance of preserving it. Glad to see south indian states are still holding onto it so tight. Keep it up.

All south india langagues come from old dravidian language not from tamil

even kannada come from proto dravidian language

why is kamal hassan hose not expert in language speaking and confusing ppl

all historians say kannanda, Telugu and tamil etc come from dravidian language

while hindi comes from indo aryan language

hindi is relative new language came in 7th or 8th century ad only thanks to muslim rulers invading india

they mixed sanskrit with their muslim dialect and made hindi and urdu as per history

but south languages are from dravid old language so not really mixed with middle east languages
