Watch this scene carefully, he wasn't driving recklessly...If it is anyone's mistake it was the mistake of the parents of that little girl for recklessly leaving the doors of their home open...It was pure fate...Nevertheless, the right thing would've been to call the police...but Shekhar obviously lost his sense of reasoning and his friend took over and lead him to make more mistakes...

It's not fair to say that he was driving recklessly. There was to much water which caused this whole problem to occur. When there's to much water, it makes it hard for the person to see while driving. Anything can happen with water infont e.g. Running over somebody or even a car crash.

At least he wasn't drinking because he was then it would have been worse.

The film was such a drag to finish. Coming back to the question- he should've been charged with hit and run and done his time if he was truly sorry for what happened, and then if Priya(?) and he still had feelings for each other then they could shack up together all they wanted.
You can't pardon criminals just because they feel a bit of remorse after they commit a crime or try to compensate. If that were the case then you might as well just release half of the inmates in the world.

Added- If it truly was a mistake and not his fault as in he lost control of the car or something, I can't quite remember the scene exactly, then he definitely should have called the police. After the police investigation if he was found not guilty then he'd get off and not have to be guilt ridden for all that time.

Should've just waited for the police and claimed that the car was driving itself. Would've taken 10-15 yrs but he would've gotten off.

Life is complicated. Decent people also do terrible things. Sometimes you have people who drive drunk or plain reckless and kill people. That kind of reckless death can be a turnaround point for many people. They change and try to repent.
Does that legally absolve them? No. Morally? Thats the complex part. Some victims forgive some don't.

The girl crossed the road before looking both ways across the street or looking at all. He was either going to hit her or the man the point. Even just stopping the vehicle could have caused an accident. Considering the chance another vehicle could have been behind him. I think had this gone to court and had the he been give "due process" or innocent till proven guilty beyond a doubt there was a good chance he would have been found innocent. Unfortunately not all counteries believe in that concept.

Tum Bin is a good compared to Hindi TV shows. Considering the major concept was redemption. Unlike the shows were the heroes intentionally do the most malicious things and get away with it without much remorse due to a dark past.

I don't think he ever planned on falling in love with the fianc. It just happened. He fell for the entire family.

P.S Rewatching the scene they also show Amar being quite reckless. He almost got hit by another vehicle before being hit by Shekhar's car. I'm still not saying that he was completely innocent but most people in the case he was in would have gotten into some kind of accident. When a person comes before you. But never the less hit and run is a crime. And real life you should turn yourself over to the police.

I agree he shud have turned himself in..and years later, if and when the case wud have come to trial I think it wud have been deemed accidental..the girl came out of nowhere, he swerved, braked, car skid and hit the water pump and then hit the guy.. he then wanted to take him to the hospital but the guy was dead already.. yes, after that his friend covered the accident up which i do not agree with.. the guy did have remorse which is more than what the spoilt brats of hit and runs have.. he wanted to help..i did not get the motive to go to Canada to be avoiding punishment.. but also, I agree the call to let him go free was not of the police guy.. his job was not to play judge but uphold the law.. they did put an emotional spin to the accident which did not sit well with me either.. but the movie still touched me, mainly coz of the performances..

Yeah like remorse is redeeming but to say she would marry the same person who killed the man she loved is ridiculous. He didn't even straight up tell her , he was the one to kill her fianc.

ummm we have such a real life example of this story
some one hits a man kills him and makes some invalid
he runs away from the law buys his freedom
he kills or buys the witnesses and vanishes evidence
