Salman Khans Sultan is finally releasing tomorrow, July 6 and we can't wait to see the film. However, with such a HUGE film comes huge numbers. Yes, Sultan is one of the most ambitious films for Salman and Yash Raj Films. In fact, this film has been the most difficult film for the superstar and we all know that he gives his 100 per cent to each and every film. And the best part is that his films always make money. So after spending approximately Rs 115 crore on the film, Yash Raj might be banking on Salman to deliver them a HUGE number at the box office. So we contacted our Trade Expert to find out how well Sultan will perform at the box office and this is what he had to say...
Talking about the buzz and the opening day collection, trade expert and Editor of Super Cinema, Amul Mohan told us EXCLUSIVELY, "The anticipation is very strong amongst the audience, in the media as well as the trade. We are expecting very big numbers throughout the first weekend. I guess it is releasing in a little over 4800 screens, which is the norm for such a huge film. Other movies have moved around, there is no other release this weekend and it has a five day weekend, so it going to be tremendous. I think it will open at about Rs 40-42 crore, which is a huge huge number."
And it seems Sultan will continue to grow over the weekend and might become the highest opening weekend grosser ever as it enjoys a five day weekend at the domestic box office. As Amul adds, "Sultan can go anywhere after the first day. If it opens at Rs 40-42 crore on Wednesday, there might be a drop on Thursday coz it's not a Holiday. Friday will again see a boom, Saturday might be on the lower side, but then again Sunday will be tremendous. So you are looking at three big days with huge numbers, plus you have the additional two days which will be great too. So I guess it will easily do in the range of Rs 150-160 crore over the five day weekend and that's me being conservative. This is the bare minimum number, it can do much bigger numbers too. Given the stature of the film and given who is the lead in the film (Salman Khan), you know it is going to be HUGE"
We revealed to you how the advance bookings have been tremendous and it seems the film will make a considerable profit over the weekend. Talking about the budget, Amul reveals, "The budget of the film excluding the fees of the cast is about Rs 85 crore. Any film with a megastar like him has to cost above Rs 100 crore including the marketing of the film. So the full cost of production and promotion of the film is about Rs 110-115 crore without the cost of the cast. There is a buzz that Salman has some part in the back end profits of the film too."
Amul also added that a film like Sultan is needed every year for the industry's survival, as he mentions, "We needed a film like Sultan. This year has seen a lull. There hasn't been a clear cut blockbuster. Kapoor & Sons, Airlift, Baaghi and all those films are super hit but you need a big blockbuster film for the industry to survive, that too at a time when we aren't making too many such films."
