Amrita Rao, renowned for her captivating performances in films like Main Hoon Na and the iconic family drama Vivah, recently shared her experiences with the unusual attention she received after Vivah became a massive hit.
The film's success catapulted her to household name status, but it also brought unsolicited marriage proposals, including some from NRIs who would send photos of their homes, families, and cars, and disturbing fan behavior, such as receiving a letter written in blood. This overwhelming attention left her feeling both astonished and uneasy.
Amrita on bizzare fan experience post Vivah’s blockbuster success
In a chat with Ranveer Allahbadia, Amrita shared that the movie's success brought her unexpected fan proposals, particularly from NRIs. "After Vivah, I used to get NRI proposals with family photos, people standing next to their car and dog, saying 'mujhse shaadi karlo? And not just one or two... I got many!" she recalled. However, things took a darker turn when one admirer went too far. "Once, I received a letter written in blood, and that was very scary," Amrita shared that a man had been loitering near her house at a telephone booth, which led to her parents' intervention.
Amrita's Bollywood Journey
Following the success of Vivah, which solidified her position in Bollywood, Amrita confessed to facing professional challenges during that time. "I met my husband (RJ Anmol) when I was at a very critical point in my life. Even with all the superhit films and love from the audience, I felt stuck. The kind of films I wanted weren't coming to me," she said. She explained that many big offers came with conditions she wasn't comfortable with, such as kissing scenes. Choosing to stay true to her principles, she opted to step back from the glamour circuit, avoiding parties, award shows, and media appearances.
Amrita's Personal And Professional Life
Amrita found solace in RJ Anmol. After a seven-year courtship, they married in a private ceremony on May 15, 2016, and welcomed their son, Veer, in November 2020. Professionally, Amrita returns to the screen in Jolly LLB 3, reprising her role as Sandhya, the supportive wife of Arshad Warsi's character.
