Comparing the career-best performances of two actresses who debuted on the same day and these films released within few months of each other. I think this is one of the more valid comparison polls on this forum.

My answer is definitely Sonam in Neerja. Piku was probably the only film in which I didn't find Deepika's acting superficial but the character lacked depth for most part. All she did was scream and that really irritated me, character-wise. Deepika's acting was fine with what she was given but I didn't find the role as challenging to pull off. Sonam on the other played Neerja with surprising honesty and intensity. A very very impactful performance. I don't know if she will keep this level up or not but one thing is certain: Sonam was born and is in Bollywood to play Neerja. Never though I'd say this but that movie wouldn't have been the same without her, something I didn't feel for Deepika in Piku.

Though Neerja moved me more as a film, Sonam hasn't managed that in Neerja. There are times when she could have done better. She emotes well, but could have done better.

This forum is so funny! Why can't two actress's performance be compared? Just because one of them is based on real event? What sort of logic is that? 😆

I am yet to see Neerja but I am pretty sure it was harder to play Neerja because Sonam had to get in someone else's shoes whereas Deepika could play fictional Piku the way she wanted.

It's only a problem because Sonam is winning the poll. If the result were the other way round you would never see the same members complain.

Easily Sonam.

I dare you not to cry in the scene she reads the letter from jaideep and in the flashback scene with her mom and family at the dinner table.

Sonam's career best. It took her awhile, but damn did she make an impression.

I haven't seen Neerja yet..but, Deepika's performance in Piku is my favorite performance of hers. I'm no Deepika fan but she was quite effortless as Piku. The nuances she incorporated into her performance were a huge plus.
