It is hands down one of my most favorite songs ever..actually the soundtrack is IMHO, Rahman's best work till date. And Sukhwinder...damn. He is LOVE. Can I just say, it is also one of the more visually stunning songs from BW? Breathtaking cinematography.

It is probably SRK's most iconic song along with tujhe dekhe toh yeh jaana sanam. I've seen a lot of people dance to it, but I don't think they have come close..Malaika and SRK really owned this song. SRK's energy and his boyish charm is unmatched, in this song. You can tell he had the time of his life in this song. Malaika's grace and sex appeal is the perfect foil to SRK's boyish charm. Probably Farah's best work too. Her choreography really was outstanding here. They made something as dangerous as dancing on a train look so cool and easy. One of those where everything comes together really well. I love the rawness and rustic feel of this song tbh.

As for the movie...I think it didn't work because it is also a bit slow.

Chaiyya Chaiyya is the best item song ever 😆 Mani Ratnam always brings the best out of ARR..Not surprising that most of his best work has been under MR..Roja, Bombay and of course Dil Se..And ARR plus Sukhwinder Singh almost always create magic together..Not to forget, the lyrics- I love love some of the lines in this song..Gulzar has done such a good job here..And of course SRK- damn..Am no fan of SRK..There are times when he annoys me to no end but this is one of those songs which make you appreciate him irrespective of what your feelings are for SRK at that point 😆 It has that effect on ppl..His boyish charm, smile and of course the energy- he legit hit it outta the park with Chaiyya Chaiyya 😆 Or almost every song in Dil Se for that matter 😆

I'l never get tired of this album..Its all kinds of awesome <3

no one absolutely no one on this Earth could have done it Chaiyya Chaiyya better than
srk..
he set the trend of item songs from this song along with Malaika khan..
he also trend setter for Cargoes from Preity women song i think..
also Raj Kapoor was the first one i read who made Indian Cinema go to Russia
n ppl loved him bt AB sr he went no where never took Indian Cinema to any new
Global Platform in his hay days bt its only srk who Conquered the hearts of Global audience
n took Indian Cinema around the Globe he propelled it whose benefit now everyone is
reaping by territorial expansion ..so wish at least abusers credit him for this 😆
his eyes has the intensity that needs no words to communicate ..his eyes just
emotes everything beautifully..i like him best when he speaks less n acts through his
eyes only...

Agree with everything you said. The song is stunning visually! I love watching the song..just as much as I love hearing the audio. Sukwinder is definitely magical. He has a powerful voice, and I feel sometimes it's hard for actors to lipsync to his voice in a believable manner. There's something lacking...but SRK nailed it. AR Rehman is at another level in this movie. I love every song from the film..but, if I absolutely HAD to choose, then I'd probably go with Chaiyya Chaiyya because it's such a fun song to watch and listen.

Oh yeahh! You put it quite aptly. Malaika's grace and sex appeal complements SRK's boyish charm. They have great chemistry. They're so spontaneous together. The rustic and rawness to the song makes it work even more. That's where I feel SRK only adds to the song's appeal. There's nothing fancy about his appearance...normal attire, no heavy makeup, sloppy hair - which by the way tremendously helped his dance 😆 SRK got everything right here..his energy in particular was above and beyond. You kind of can't help but smile while watching him.

Definitely one of the best albums to have ever come out Bollywood. The lyrics are AMAZING to say the least! Gulzar at his finest. As I said earlier, this song has legit poetry. The song is even more wonderful once you actually understand what Gulzar has written.

Oh yess..SRK's eyes. How can one miss that? 😆 He also has this playfulness in his eyes while dancing to this song...which really works with the context of the song. That dimpled smile he shows from time to time in the song is also so endearing to see.

Okay..I cant help but post this here 😆

There are so many songs in the 90s which were huge hits and when i listen to it now, i always wonder how and why they became such a big rage..Cos yeah, i like it but there is nothing so amazing about it..But with Chaiyya Chaiyya, i know exactly why..If this song released today, am pretty sure it'l be a blockbuster..And SRK is such a charmer here..You know why ppl were obsessed with him in the 90s 😆 Dil Se is also one of the reasons why ARR can never be overrated..And why no music director in today's times can ever match up to his genius..

P.S. Sorry for the rants..I love ARR, i love this album and this song in particular so your topic sorta inspired me to gush 😆

This is getting too nostalgic. 😆

This is the scene right before Chaiyya Chaiyya if anyone wants to see it again:

AR Rehman is amazing. I don't think anything will ever come close to Dil Se's album. It's timeless. The hardwork he put into this album truly shows. I love how even if the film didn't do well, the music never went unnoticed. In fact, till this day we're talking about it. How many times do you see that happen with a film that didn't do well? especially a film from 2 decades ago.

Speaking of AR Rehman..I initially didn't like Tamasha's music album. Even while I watched the film, I didn't quite enjoy a lot of the songs as much as I had hoped..but after watching the film, I decided to hear the album again..and then again..and now, I love the album. I think that's more so the case with ARR now? because earlier, his songs would instantly connect with you.
