I can write an essay on all the things wrong with KKHH but i also know why it worked and why i loved it as a kid back then 😆 Karan may be a lot of things but he actually knows how to handle SRK-Kajol and their chemistry..I saw the film on TV a while back and realized some bits never get old..The whole heartbreak sequence (Kajol was outstanding there) and so many bits in the second half- that scene where they meet for the first time, the terrace scene, the basket ball scene, the dumb charades sequence and of course the gazebo dance <3 Even tiny bits like the one where lil Anjali asks Rahul about his friend and Rahul cant help but gush- you know right there why the film was a huge hit..They just don make romcoms like that anymore..And you cannot make such romcoms without SRK-Kajol (this sounds way too pompous but i cant help it 🤣)

Yes..Before the release of Dilwale, when Sony was having this SRK movie marathon and playing all his films 😆 Not the whole thing though..In bits and pieces and i liked it 😆 And of course these two<3

I also saw the FF award clip where SRK won the best actor for KKHH and he actually mentioned that Kajol is the hero of the film and it belonged to her..Which i thought was really sweet on his part 😆

That's probably true. I can merely hear the background music of KKHH and I start getting all emotional. 😆 As roger put it, there can be a million things wrong with KKHH but that film will still always be special. It's something I (and many others) grew up watching and back then it was perhaps the best bollywoodd movie I ever watched. Of course, now I see it differently, lol but still. SRK and Kajol definitely add to that film..even today, the film may be flawed but SRK and Kajol's chemistry isn't. DDLJ is surely the better film. Some of the Raj and Simran scenes are just too good.

This is a redundant question honestly.

He did it and it's one of the most legendary songs of Bollywood. There's no argument here.

Apart from the song, Dil Se is arguably SRK's best ever film. It's a 5-star classic.

That scene between Anjali and Rahul right before Tujhe Yaad Na Meri Aaye..is legit heartbreaking. It gets me everytime. Kajol was beyond amazing there. Her emotions as Anjali were just too real. Oh that scene where they meet after years and don't even know how to greet each other. That scene also. The gazebo scene is surely amazing!

And that scene where Rahul is trying to say I love you through charades or whatever..and he can't get it and then the kid helps him with it..and Anjali goes you couldn't even do that we would have won the game if you did. That bit is too emotional also. 😆

^^ Which reminds me of Vigil Idiot's review of the film 😆

Have I mentioned yet how cable TV coming to India was the defining event of my nineties? Seems like I should have. I mean, this was the event that taught me that our film industry straight-up ditto copied stuff because no one expected Jill and Joe Average to be aware of the Western source material.

It also taught me that you can get away with anything if the person you're talking to has no frame of reference to tell that you're faffing. All you really need to do to is sound convincing enough. And, man alive, did Bollywood ever pull off the conviction bit or what?

If you hadn't heard his entire discography on MTV already, how could you not believe Anu Malik's puppy dog eyes when he told you that his songs were original? Now, I would actually be okay about this shoddy plagiarism business if Bollywood's who-gives-a-f**k-ness didn't spill over to the little things. Little things like characters shown smoking without inhaling, or less outrageous stuff like hacking into a computer using Windows Media Player.

Which brings me to 1998's Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, a little blockbuster that was, legit, the coolest movie that Bollywood had come out with till that time. I, however, will forever remember it as the last of the movies that was deemed cool by the general public, despite showing actors air guitar on screen with an actual guitar in hand.

I'm not saying that no one knew what musicians were supposed to look like on stage before MTV happened, but, evidently, no one who talked about movies did. Now, this Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji starrer is also the film that launched the career of one Mr Karan Johar. I've reviewed many a KJo flick in my time and have a very special place in my heart for each and every one of them. None more so than this first one, though.

LESSON #29
Be it global warming, or just reuniting two lovers, dump on your kids the problems you can't take care of yourselves.

Haha, ok. Watch the whole thing again and tell me if you have changed your mind about some of the faults. 😆

Oh KKHH is all Kajol. It is Anjali's story. Rahul is the foil..in DDLJ, it is more driven by Raj and Simran is the foil. He has said this a couple of times now 😆
