I see the points, but the author doesn't really talk about when critics give bad reviews, yet the audience loves it (e.g., Chennai Express). Or when critics give rave reviews and the audience rejects it (e.g., Lootera). In the end, I agree with others who say it is the trailer, previews, cast, music, and opinions of trusted others that compels someone to the theaters. I recommended Piku to a lot of my friends and they rushed out to see it. Meanwhile, I have had bad vibes about BV from the first looks and wasn't inspired to watch it at all. The internet reviews just confirmed my own gut reaction (which was the same for Kill Dil, BTW 😭)

^^ Plus I would've had positive sympathy if the industry was not so immediate in blaming the audience. Like W*F? Feels sad to realize that critics and WOM may have more power than your faltu so-called industry? This is almost like that Salman nonsense on a different level. Movie achchi nahi bani, tou Audience ki galti. Movie hit ho jayye, tou stars ko credit. W*F is this?
-_- Not a single major critical review was positive either so W*F are the audience supposed to do? Spend their money on what is regarded as bad? Amazing. My love for Kashyap is going down by the second with the kind of people he surrounded himself with lately.

Rubbish article!

1. Where was this guy after DBB?, at least that movie was reviewed well. I would feel bad if reviews r 4 star n collection is 5 crs, not when review is 2 stars n collection 5 crs. Just because this is Ranbir and that was sushant!?

2. Critics never kill a movie. akki, sallu and srk movies rarely get praises from critics! where was he then? He should have defended them too.

3. Public is the king, One cannot force audience to like certain cinemas we like! i am against this. media has bashed many movies, still they became a success.. you cannot bring excuse to save a bad film

This guy is just blaming the media for nothing but one day attention.

This article reminds me of the "Vicitmization of Salman Khan" article on koimoi. You have done badly...accept it gracefully instead of trying to blame others.

An example of DLKH...no one really expected it to work despite people finding the promos sweet. No one even expected Piku to work...afterall it was a film on constipation. But when people went to see these movies they were blown away. So stop saying we had DECIDED to not like the movie. Even Ranbir fans were disappointed with the movie.

It was not the public opinion, but the trailers that made me lose my enthusiasm for the movie, they were underwhelming and so were the songs. I watched DBB despite many people not liking it, and I found it an engrossing ride. Whenever I go by the reviews, I try to find the film's good and bad points ,whether it is masala entertainment , good script or whichever is I want from the movie and I think most people choose the same way. At the end of the day audiences spent around 600-800 bucks on a movie and if they have got a better option (PIKU, Fury road) why wouldn't they choose it.

Richa chadha's timeline
@PritishNandy and the internet makes everyone feel relevant."Here's my review",you say,I say who asked you? What qualifies you to judge?

They are now basically questioning a movie goer's right to post his opinion on twitter.

I don't understand why all these pro-BV celebs are so condescending towards movie goers and their choice in films, yes some masala films cross100 crores and people love to unwind themselves with such choices, so what is wrong in that? It is not that people don't appreciate good cinema, this year movies like NH10, DLKH , Piku and badlapur were clear hits despite being not excessively commercial, Baby was praised and loved by many and along comes a movie which does not live upto the expectations and everybody is rushing to blame the audiences. They spend the money and they got the right to choose.

Haven't read the article...but I agree with all the comments praising DBB. 😆 The movie didn't deserve to be a flop. 😛
