I think what's important than having striking faces, is to have a striking personality and character to the face..twinkling eyes or a winning smile or a prominent jaw line...it needs to respond well to the camera...most of the actresses of the yester years like Rekha, sridevi, karishma etc were initially panned for their looks but they groomed themselves well and now people call them divas...today's actresses are well groomed right from their first film, in terms of style and body, and most of their faces respond well to the camera (barring parineeti and shraddha whom I find totally bland on camera)...that's all I really care about more than having perfectly symmetrical features as far as looks are concerned...

Firstly, Beauty is too subjective a topic to make any such judgement

One thing I do agree with- The earlier actresses had STUNNINGLY beautiful & DIFFERENT faces. Not the cookie cutter variety we watch nowadays on the silver screen.

From the current lot- Ileana is a Goddess. What a different & STUNNING face & body!!!

Die Mirza looks like a precious Mughal princess. She BLOWS your mind away, that perfectly carved angelic beauty & tiny, petite frame.

Aditi Rao Hydari - Another angelic beauty.

The rest are OK. Nothing to write home about but are high on talent, and their looks are much more relatable.

A solid reason is that movies are trying to be much more relatable, exploring different avenues of Life rather than dancing-Swiss Alps... One needs faces that make the audience feel like one of them.

Not an UNBELIEVABLE face like Aishwariya Rai's, swathed in a chiffon Saree, nimble footed & atop a Swiss Alp.

If you'd noticed, all those you mentioned as the best looking are outsiders.

The ones you call average pretty are those who are star kids or those with connections.

In the past, it was a sin to become an actress, since it was not looked at as a respectable profession. So mostly outsiders got the chance to become actresses - and only the truly best were picked. With time, that notion has disappeared, and now we have star daughters/sisters , even producer/director daughters etc becoming heroines. So even if they're average looking, they're groomed and given a makeover to make them look decent and then they're given films, whether or not they deserve them.

Just look at the current actresses - Alia, Sonakshi, Parineeti, Shraddha, Sonam - you name them, all star kids. So it's all the more difficult for an outsider actress to make a mark. When no star daughter will take up a role, the outsiders might have a chance. For instance, no one was ready to pair up opposite Tiger Shroff in his debut film Heropanti, so they had to get an outsider, Kriti Sanon - and she's any day more beautiful than all the current actresses. Thankfully, she's made a mark and has gotten more opportunities. So you get the big picture now.

+1 👏

Let them get more average. Or even below average.
If heroes are so ugly then why heroine should look like a fairy?

Beauty is subjective. I still find today's actresses to be pretty, i think sonam, deepika and shraddha are beautiful.
