The crowd puller for me is actually Gabbar Singh that is Amjad Khan.😆

Then Sanjeev Kumar as Thakur.

Dharmendra had started before Amitabh so yeah he was more established. I like understated Jai more than OTT bewda Veeru.

And yes Amitabh did rise to be the biggest later.

Keep calling him overrated. Craze for him in real life till date is testimony to what he is.

Check indiantelevision.com. His old films still get top ratings and drive movie channels.

Nobody cares about Dharam now except for looks and his Punjabi fans.

It was Darr kind of scene... before watching Darr, all came for Sunny Deol's face, after watching it they went with SRK in mind as he impressed them the most.

Same case here, they came for Dharmendra, as he was Big @ time, after watching Sholay, they went with Gabbar Singh in mind... he was that good, overshadowed everyone. After Gabbar, surprise package was Big B. Rest came afterwards.

Atleast he still has LOYAL fans

Where as Big B had no successful films for last 6 - 7 years. His TV show tanked. His reality show works on concept. He is respected but the truth is no body is interested watch him. Bhootnath returns kinda tanked. Satyagraha, Department, Aarakshan all adds into disasters list.

That saying Big B stays in limelight. He will be loved and respected but he at the end is popular for long reign Bollywood and filmography. Not for his BO reign

Talking of an actor's pull after 65 years of age?

First tell me what Dharam did in old age!

Amitabh did path breaking work like Paa, Black, Sarkar. He is still in top tax payers list. Still wins greatest star polls, still ranks in Forbes most powerful celebrities lists, still has temples dedicated to him, KBC still gets great ratings, he won two National awards for best actor after 60.

What is Dharam? Tinku jiya in YPD films?

Look at crowds outside Bachchan's house every Sunday. And especially on his birthday. Fans cause traffic jams on roads! Tell me any old Bollywood star who has such craze!

There was mania when he got hospitalised again in 2005.

Whereas nobody bothers about other oldies except when they die.

Some years ago BO analysts together appeared and gave interviews on Amitabh's BO reign. Video is on YT or not I don't know but all acknowledged what a phenomenon he was. Posted an old article by Komal Nahta also in other thread about Amitabh the One man industry.

@Atominis biggest appreciation for ur impartial review hope we comeout like this on this region religion etc. as kid we always fond to watch gabber character on cable tv vcd etc. nd recite dialogue. i m sure on their time this also works bcoz all these actors r in their initial phase nd marketing pr r naive in their time.

Similar case is Mr India for me. I watch it only for Mogambo. Amrish Puri just phenomenal!

Sholay is one of a kind as every actor and character was memorable whether it was leads or small characters like Soorma Bhopali.

Even mare Dhanno is famous!😆

My BW filmography is mostly the three Khans, I have barely seen Bachchan or Dharam Paaji. But even I know the 'Kitne Admi The' of Sholay. IDK what brought people in because I did not even exist then, but I do know what is the most enduring of Sholay. Not Jay or Viru or Basanti, but Gabbar..

It's a pretty simple question which many posters are hell bent on twisting around.

Dharmendra and Hema were the main draw of Sholay. Infact, Dharmendra got Bachchan the film in the first place for a role which was meant to be played by shatrughan Sinha.

Veeru is clearly the hero of the film but the film belongs to thakur and gabbar but that is not what the TM is asking.

Even today when it comes on TV, I watch it, everyone in my family loves it ... Got a great repeat value ...the actors, characters, dialogues, story, music ... Perfect.
