Bet not all Sikhs are like that too. I do realize how stereotyping a whole sect of ppl can be offending, but thats how things operate in BW and in general throughout the world.

You do have Abhay Deol, Jimmy Shergill,Parminder Nagra etc.

Parminder Nagra is not in Bollywood.

Also if people don't care about how Bollywood is run then why the constant complaining. I mean this forum is littered with people complaining about Bollywood.

The constant bickering

I am a Punjabi myself.. which pretty much the whole forum knows by now. However this constant rant of Sikhs complaining about being misrepresented needs to stop. We're so small in numbers, yet we're atleast being represented. Not only that, we're by far ruling the entertainment industry. Be it music or actors/actresses.

Get over it man. Yes it's disturbing when we're shown as "the always drunk" and partying people. But stereotypes are there for every community. There are way more Marathis, Gujratis etc in our country, but when was the last time a film showed all their traditions/culture? yep. never. I think we need to appreciate our own artists slightly more than just dissing them.

I hardly see anyone posting about how this actor is a fake Hindu or fake Mallu or fake Maharashtrian or a fake Christian. Once in a while we have posts like this where ppl air out their thoughts, which his Ok too. But why have such small thinking to say I like Ranveer Singh , he is Sikh(like you said in another post) and as soon as you come to know he isn't one you start another thread asking about the sikh actors and who is worthy to be an icon for Sikh youths.

Do not look for role models in Bollywood.
Why discuss identity and background? What does it have to do with the artistes' work?

Gulzar, Jagjit Singh, Geeta Bali were born Sikhs if you want some examples.

Portrayal of not a single community is right or free from stereotypes in Bollywood. In fact often commercial Punjabi films also have stereotypical characters.

Not everybody who uses Singh as last name is Sikh. Nor are all Punjabis Sikhs.

Amitabh Bachchan's mother was a Sikh so that makes him half Sikh too if you want examples...

Role model should depend on quality of work being done by a person and not mainly his or her religion.

I think it's just me airing out a thought. I don't really care about the religions of actors.

I mean none of my favourite ones are Sikh.

However I like debates and this thread was quite fun.

I get bored of the Bollywood gossip at times. Like the dating, what they are wearing, which movie is doing great blah blah.

A new topic. Also I am still very new to this forum and even Bollywood to be honest. So there is still things to learn.

Exactly.

Every movie has Punjabi actors or characters or Sikh characters. As an NRI do you even know of my native place and its ppl,ie Mangalore? There are many actors who are Mangalorean but is it even represented in Bollywood movies? Do you know the language we speak?Atleast everyone knows of Punjabis and Sikhs cos of these movies. There are million languages, sects and cultures in India, not everyone is highlighted or even given some importance in movies. Thats why my liking an actor or a member here might not depend on what state or sect they belong to.

Good debate though. I agree BW forum gets monotonous with the same kind of PR stunts articles and gossips.
