What she says makes sense even though it sounds like she is defending Kareena's item numbers and skin show in Heroine. What she says about item girls deserving respect is right.

Govinda was actually condemned in 90s for many songs esp Aa aa ee song.

Exactly! Even though I don't think there was anything wrong with the song! Poor guy is being bashed a decade later for it also!

Oh ok, that makes a bit more sense.
Though my interpretation of that song, and the entire movie, is similar to a few critics who felt it was a throwback to the films of the 80s. Satire.
Including that song, which mocks desi obsession with everything Western. Hence the blonde getups, and the lyrics, which are GENIUS IMO

White White face dekhe, dilwa beating fast, sasuraa chance maare re

If anything, at least thing song mocks.
Look at half a dozen other songs. How many will you protest against?
Including classics like
"Gore gore mukhde pe kaala kaala chashma"
"gore gore se chore" from Hum Tum

"Kaali kaali aankhein, ye gore gore gaal"

I'm sure you'll find the gora reference everywhere.
Point is, you've taken the argument in another direction entirely.
From sexism to internalized racism/oppression. Which wasnt Sharmila's focus to begin with.

Desu anyway I think it was unfair of sharmilla to just point at govinda. Why not start charity from home itself.

She's trying to make a point.
She need an example of a male actor who might have done suggestive dance moves (think Sarkai Lo takiya, pelvic thrusts, etc) who was uphailed and revered, to show the inequality.
Nothing Saif did was ever revered. Govinda was quite a rage back in his day. Saif was never, so that defeats the purpose of an example 😆

And since she's defending women, and their dance numbers, she's actually NOT exemplifying her own DIL, not defending her. I thought this rather praise worthy. That to defend dance numbers, she's using other actress's songs. Not her own DIL.
I mean how lame would it sound if she outright said, "fevicol was a good song"
It'd be too blatantly obvious that she's defending her family member. Which defeats the purpose of her debate.

Pataudis rarely, like I said, speak of each other or praise each other when they can avoid it. Even Soha and Saif have said the same.

Saif winning a national award offended me more than Govinda's dance steps! 😉

Well i m from the generation which grew up on Govindas Songs & Movies..n Lemme tell u..Govinda was condemned a LOT during his time for all the dance movements he did!!
He was funny n entertaining but he was always referred to as richshaw-waley masses ka hero n ppl from urban classes never associated themselves with Govinda..even if they did njoy those dance numbers!!Coz he was looked down upon at that time!
I wud say ppl in general r much more liberal now n dont condemn salman or akshay or whosoever the hero is in the item song...n actually call munni n sheila songs as entertaining!!
Back in the time of Govinda...he was panned a LOT by the media n critics as well...i dont remember a single article in paper which said WOW govinda is so much fun!! it was only few yrs later...when govinda vanished from the screen..did junta realise what he was n now every1 misses him!!
Sharmila aunty is decades elder than me n shud have known all this before defending her or anybody elses DIL so-called right to do Item numbers !! Yeah Righttt!! 😆😆😆

^^True That! Nobody in their right mind ,,,who was part of 90s time in movies..would say that govinda was applauded and ppl publicly appreciated him for what he did onscreen!!
He was the butt of Jokes for all colorful clothes he used to wear and was criticisized HEAVILY by padhi-likhi educated class junta...n elite ppl...The Term RickShaw walon ka Cinema...originated from what he did on onscreen n his brand of cinema!!
His songs like Aa Aa ee, Meri Pant Bhi Sexy, Teri Nani Mari toh mein kya karu etc were panned badly...n his sarkailo khatiya was never aired on TV for long coz of its objectionable contents and there were BIG debates abt how censor is allowing such songs...
I dont understand what sharmila is trying to say by quoting Govinda n saying he was appreciated!! Auntyji sathiya gayi hai !!!😆😆
Its now ,..when cinema has got much more crappy taht ppl realise that govinda was better to have than these munni n sheilas!😉😉
