I agree with you to a certain extent, but then I think...where do we draw the line?
Because the same logic can be applied to violence can it not?
The same sector you speak of that is not smart enough to know the difference between real or reel will take the same inspiration from violence onscreen that it will from sensuality.
Should we start censoring violence as well? I remember a while ago, films had issues with the censorboard coz of a few scenes with smoking. They had to have them censored, but I mean, that's ridiculous.

I think Beyond_the_veil had an argument along the same lines as mine in another topic, but its basically that controlling the media will only curb the symptoms. Instead, try to alter mindset.
If we start censoring, there will be no end to it.
Right now its a specific song termed as an "item song", but then the lines blur.
Even in a wedding song, as Sharmila mentioned, you can have a woman being objectified. The cameras can zoom in on certain parts of her body, she can look sexy, she can do anything and everything without the label of "item song"

These dance numbers have been part of hindi cinema for years. All the way back to Helen's seductive Yeh Mera Dil and Piya Tu Ab Toh Aaja.

See the contradictions right in the beginning, first she says a woman is free to say how she is being projected and then adds but there are compulsions. Also once she says women are not volunteering its patriarchal society and then again says she should not loose respect.

To be honest, the recent wave of shirless 6 packs showing is also due to demand of consumers.

her only sexist point i support is about men and women selling stuff in ads.

But also there has been situations where sushmita riding half naked men wearing a jeans brand did not attract condemntion, that also is sexist I feel.

Also Women are not really seen dancing to these songs she mentions unless its a reality show where again the whole market, demand and compulsion story comes.

Anyways she says a woman can enjoy and do whatever she want on screen, fine point taken. i don't need to see it, but what if its played 14*7 and been shoven down my throat?

What if the woman in real life says she is afraid and what is wrong with society post delhi rape, yet can happily chirp , my most fav is tandoori murgi wallah line. [ saw it in the making video, and read the previous lines in newspaper, so there might be slight modification in what she really said]

I am not attacking kareena just saying sharmila's uproar seems to be completely directed in this direction.

As for pointing out govinda, clearly she did not do any research and picked up a scapegoat.

Honestly, the way a modern nri woman was potrayed in cocktail and how the model woman is sati savitri is shown in a movie and how the hero who can make 20 million mistake is still a guy and all forgiven and he gets the nice girl is shown, I would call that also very very sexist. I did not see her put out a single line saying how it might not have appealed to her sensibility either.

hence people are targetting saif too and pointing at her double talk

If you recall I was one of the first few to comment on this article, I have seen general posts and your comments too. I saw very few of them actually were baiting saif and were mostly criticising sharmilla for her comments.

Also I would like to point something out, not in relation to desu but wrt some comment here I read.

In an ideal world, a person should be mature enough to distinguish between real and fantasy. However movies really have a wider and longer lasting impact on people's mind, good or bad. Since listening is better than reading and viewing is even better than listening. Therefore movies do have a social responsibility. And when item songs and the provocative movements are shown done by women to entice men, terrible double meaning lyrics are used, it does have an effect on people. Also those weird ass movies where stalking is heroic, meri maal dialogues are rampantly used. Mature people snap out of it, kids with sensible parents do not get to see those, like I was never allowed to see all those 90s songs while growing up, strict prohibition. But in a not so ideal world, kids, teenagers watch them and form the impression, even grown up people feed on them and takes those images home. hence there need to be some sort of regulation to keep such things at check. A goverment should never be a moral police but in a volatile society like ours, there is not much choice. if movie makers will not take responsibility, some one has to.

Very well said 👏

I would've almost agreed with you until I read your last sentence. Vidya's skin show is actually what has given her the appreciation she has too, I never saw people praising her as much before TDP happened. Vidya could've easily continued with movies like Parineeta but she too, just like Kareena etc, chose to do Oo La La and get in the Top 10 female stars we have today. It would be totally wrong to set her apart because she is no different in this case.

WORD!
It took TDP to relegate Vidya to the top.
Before that, she was doing her Paa and NOKJs, but she was hardly counted as anything as a force to be reckoned with until TDP.

I concur before she was just a good actress and we have tons of those 😆

Only few can be STARS . It took her being half naked to become one .

But her ooh la la is never termed bad like fevicol Sheila or Munni ⭐️

Hypocrisy if u ask me
