At one point they were so strong that every crap show with every crap actor was a major hit. Very much like Salman's films. One couldnt imagine in the mid-2000s that the phase would be over. But it was. And K shows were kicked out by the same channel that started it.
In 60s and early 70s we had romance, then we had action in the late 70s and 80s then again we had romance/family dramas in the 90s and early 2000s. Now its masala again...something else will rise later...

Every actor is doing Masala

Often masala films have typical hero villain plot.

And all you listed are masalas

And agreed ETT isn't masala it's was just a romantic action genre. No typical masala setting, punchlines or hero vs villains

I agree with one member who mentioned about Dus Ka Dum...being the Turning POint...
Yes ...very True...prior to Dus ka Dum...Salman was all doomed...all accusation , bad image , negativity...took toll over him and It would have been his carrer end...
but then Dus Ka Dum hapened...through which People got to see REAL Salman...who is completely different then what Media Presentaed... for me DKD changed my perception towards him...I was surpried to see thsi Side of Salman which was kept hidden . Salman never interacted with Media and hence People never got to know him but DKM chnaged al that ...he has never a Host there , a friend better to say...his interaction with Audience was sooo natural .
And too over-doing of something makes it Bore...just like how I got bored of SRK Repeatative Romantic Roles...same way Salman is going...please dude enough of Masala Movies...time to do some Performance Oriented roles...and He can do that...He still has that In Him...
But have to say...this Salman phase is really something Phenomenol...none of teh Actor has Tasted anything like this in recent times...

Actually BI IMO some kind of masala will always remain. Even more mature film industries like Hollywood have lots of crappy masala movies. Its just that the nature of masala will change. Like in the 90s the masala was those romantic movies like DDLJ, HAHK which had huge families. Then we had the Akshay phase of comedies and romcoms. Action movies had been out of the limelight for a long time till 2008 when Ghajini and Wanted came along. They were just the perfect receipe for aging stars like Salman, Aamir, Akshay, Ajay to stay in the limelight longer. No wonder they have been embraced by Bollywood. But now too many are getting into this genre. SRK, Ranbir and even Shahid are the newest entrants. There is a limit to everything. Soon we will have one masala action comedy movie releasing every Friday. How many can people take? They will start meeting the fate of K786 unless they are extra-ordinary. That will I guess make Bollywood experiment. I'll give this genre till 2014 before something else in terms of masala comes along.

very well said ksh. even looking at yash rajs romances. anyone ever thought a time will come that ppl will get sick of these lovey dovey romances.
same with all these masala movies. you put shingham, dabaang, rowdy R., dabaang 2, etc...just how long we going to lap these ones.

i went to see dabaang 2 in theaters, MERCY!! i see a change coming, matter of time.
